Hip boots - 05/18/20 01:58 AM

Any advice for buying hip boots, such as brand?
I want a pair for launching my boat, just not sure which ones to get.

Thanks for any help.

I purchased a pair of black colored LaCross hip boots about 6 years ago and they have held up great. I store them properly when not in use. They have small handles inside the boot below the knee level for pulling the boot fully on which comes in handy too.

If you just use them to launch the boat, you probably don't need a $100+ pair. I've used a relatively cheap pair of pvc hip waders from Frogg Togg that have held up fine. The footprint is rather small though.

I just recently picked up a pair of 4mm neoprene waders from Rogers Sporting Goods and so far I love them. They stay up all on their own without using the strap, and they have a bigger boot that should provide better support and more warmth.

Probably overkill for launching a boat, but here's a link.

I picked up some frogg toggs ranas a month ago based on advice on here. Watched for a deal and got them for $30-40ish. Lightweight, I've only worn them a couple times scouting and trout fishing and plan to use as fishing/ backup trapping pair, buying lacrosse traplines before fall. The frogg toggs should be a good affordable option for launching your boat.

I wish they made boots that are somewhere in between the height of knee boots & hip boots. Too often I go over my knee boots, but hip boots can be a little bulky if hip height is not truly needed.

It is better to have and not need.....than it is to need and not have.

You just need longer legs. Or shorter legs.

Maybe, lol. They call them knee boots but they don't go to my knees.

Lacrosse makes a pair of "irrigation boots" that are 26", in-between knee and hippers..
