I think of that a lot when I'm on the river where the tracks run along it. Every once in awhile a car or two ends up in it.

The boys will be making good OT money.
You gotta be on the ball working train wrecks.Lots of bent steel under stress, got to be careful cutting it.
Some de-railments are pretty routine, but wrecks are something else.Worked an acid trainwreck once in dead of winter.Sulfuric acid puddles under the snow all over the place.

Pop always said “she was so ugly, she’d make a train jump the tracks and head down a dirt road.”

I got a friend up east of Abilene I used to sell fur to his dad that does that work. They get paid well when they are gone.
He is easy to remember because he can set 330s with his hand one right after another so we never arm wrestled him LOL

The moisture in rotten ties will freeze and they get brittle and break under load... That allows the rails to shift away from each other and then you've got a mess.

That's how it was explained to me by a MOW worker.

So I'm guessing the locomotives derailed first?

I read reports that people were hearing a loud squealing sound from the train in different Towns, that the Train ran through that Night. I wonder if one of the wheels came off the tracks, and hit one of the rails at a siding.
