Twenty years ago a rancher I knew had one walk in front of his truck just west of Red Bluff, CA in the foothills above the Sacramento Valley. They can cover a lot of ground.
He had somebody make a Wolverine Crossing road sign and stuck it in the spot. Still there today.

Except they didn't. They have not killed off trapping in WA yet.

What I think is interesting is to make a statement that only 50 wolverine are in Washington state when there could be that many in each mtn range and who would be the wiser ?

Fascinating. It's pretty amazing some of the places we can find animals where "they aren't supposed to be." Found chukar in the junipers a few times. Seen a black bear in the sage and juniper desert of eastern Oregon. Seen a harlequin duck 200 miles inland. Go figure.
