Do you have any steam or antique tractor shows in your area? Hit and miss motors are very popular at those venues. We have several associations that have several shows a year here in NW Pa.

He'll do well with a well publicized auction

I would say an online auction, where the percentage fee doesn't kill the profit.
Such as Del Peterson, who only charge seller 5% and buyer 5% so no one gets hammered.
DPA is out of Fremont, Nebraska
I'd say it's better because buyers can view and bid on equipment for an extended period of time.
Check out the DPA website to better understand what I'm talking about.

I do an antique tractor show every year with one of my bee clubs and those engines are on display including one running a big churn for the ice cream vendor. Very popular among collectors.
An ice cream vendor at our state fair uses the hit and miss engines to power their churns. They have about a half dozen of them running. They make good ice cream and stay busy.

Re: Hit and Miss Nerds - 07/22/21 02:12 AM
In a couple months I'll be part of a group setting up a tent and observation hives from one of our local bee clubs at an old farm days event. Lots of old iron and the spit and pop of these hit and miss engines. Love it!
Don't know what I enjoy the most talking bees to the curious, the old tractors, the homemade peach ice cream churned by the power of a hit and miss, the fresh pork rinds or talking with the guys doing the moonshine demonstration.

That is going to be one busy auction. Some very nice things. Should bring very good money. People come from far and wide around here for less than that. Hope he makes a bundle

Re: Hit and Miss Nerds - 07/22/21 11:23 AM
Always a shame when someone knew what everything was and did not take notes on the certain items. Those few words said in a live auction get the hands out of the pockets
Reminds me of a certain Wisc trap collector that once he got home from having a heart attach went into his collection and tagged and made notes on everything. He is named after a certain game bird !
