For a younguns I'd pick irons and let them master that while saving to buy their own scope.

I think Warrior is right but if you have to have one,Weaver makes a nice little 2x7 rimfire with 1" tube.

I have a leupold 2-7 freedom rimfire that is used quite a bit. Glass is pretty good, it’s thrown around a lot and I’ve never had it off zero.

I have a weaver on mine and just replaced the factory bolt buffer with a nylon one.

I would look at a 1-6x primary arms scope with the kiss reticle. Like warrior said they have a 22 reticle too i believe. Plenty of mag for 22 ranges and can turn it down to 1x for close up rabbits and squirrel.

A little more magnification than the ones stated above, but CDNN has bushnell b17 3.5x10x36 on sale for $50. Supposed to be a decent scope.

I had a red dot on my 10/22 and this gun is also my trapping rifle. I ended up taking it off, wasnt worth a crap in dark and at shorter distances.
I like irons especially for .22s. Now when the young one gets up to say a .22 mag or .17 hmr, then yes a scope for the distance capable is warranted, but irons are good for a starter setup teachers em.to be a good shooter first.

I had a bushnell 2x38 on mine, great for squirrels in the woods, especially in lower light levels.

Vortex 2-7x32 Crosfire II BDC on a EGW extended 20moa rail with high weaver quad lock rings one extended https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1477183444

you would find it looks just like this , I know the parts fit very little clearance but they do fit.
the young one can grow and move the scope forward as long as they don't grow to a giant size and it still fits and works well

Why 20moa because it costs the same as the 0mao and when you start playing around at 200 yards which is a great way to learn to read the wind and deal with elevation changes lager then the target the 20moa gives the added adjustment needed.

Here is the Weaver 2x7 on a CZ youth model.

This is the Leupold 2x7 on a Tac Sol version of the 10/22. On rifles like these,I like a scope that is light, doesn't sit too high and is relatively proportionate to the size of the rifle. Both setups are deadly on ground squirrels, out to 100 yds. [Linked Image]

2-7x makes a lot of sense on anything not long range , at 2x you can get on a target fast and close. I have shot a bunch of running deer as close as 7 yards an out to about 125

but at 7x you can still see 400 reasonably well

Always thought a good peep sight would/ should be the ticket on a 22
Anyone know if any models of the Henry rifles come with a peep?

I don't know Mike, but there are quite a few peep/ ghost ring sights out there for lever actions.I have a 45/70 Marlin guide Gun and another .44 Marlin,16" bbl, with XS rear,Ghost rings and fiber optic, green front sights. They are the ticket in the woods. When I started deer hunting, with a pre-64 Winchester,m94,my Dad and I had a serious discussion about sights. He thought I needed a Leuopold EER, 2x scope, kind of a "Scout Scope" (he was paying). I had been shooting on a couple rifle teams for a few years and we used Lyman peep sights and bead fronts.

I knew what a peep sight could do and I won out.Where I hunted, you would be darned lucky to see a deer,in an opening,at 100 yds..I shot my 1st deer at 25 yds with that set up and quite a few others. Not sure if Dad ever got it,but I love those peeps in the timber.I love my scopes as well, but 200 yds and under, the peep sights rule and there is no fogging or trying to get snow or ice off the objective lense. My Marlin Guide Gun will shoot 1.5" groups, all day long, with factory ammo and an XS ghost ring sight,at 100 yds.I tried a scope to see what it could really do,but nothing changed.Sorry,Dad.I was right on this one. I love you. Thanks for the peep.
