Boco do you get to collect a bounty on those nuisance beaver up there?

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 01:35 AM

No we get paid under contract per complaint-paid by the animal, mileage and for breaking the dam/lowering the water when done.

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 01:45 AM

When you take a paying gig like that can you salvage the pelt, meat, casters, etc?

Posted By: Boco

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 01:55 AM

Yes,we can.To keep the pelts to sell on the raw fur market you need to report it, for your own use,no problem.Pelts are generally no good after June.
Castors are a bonus, the good fresh meat I give to elders that like to cook it sagabon, the rest goes back to the trapline.Sometimes people are looking for beaver carcasses for bear bait or dogfood.

Awsume but there is a problem; I don't see any black flies !

I can see that hydro pole is being flooded at the base.

If that line went down would Walleyed be left in the dark !

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 03:02 AM

Indeed he would.
Now that you mention it ,50, I should let it flood.

Sorry,

We don't have "Hydro" in New York State.

We have electricity which comes from 3 Nuclear Power Stations
within 30 miles of where I live.

Any "Hydro" you hosers provide goes directly to The Covid Capital of
North America, New York City.

Besides,

If the power ever did go down I have Coleman Lanterns on standby.

Is the nuisance work under the same prohibition as fur trapping concerning non residents?

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 06:05 PM

Nice pictures! How do you like those number 5 longsprings?
Posted By: Boco

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 06:27 PM

Newhouse,In Ontario, yes you need a trapping licence to do nuisance work. Not sure about other provinces.
Landowners can remove nuisance animals on their own property.
Ave,the #5 longsprings do a fine job on beaver.I have about half a dozen that I use mostly for nuisance work on squareshy beaver,or if I want to be discreet around the public, etc.
I have had those for a long time now, back in the day I took a lot of beaver with #3 and #4 vic dls.

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 10:22 PM

Yes unfortunately its not all that uncommon with beaver living near roads/hunters.

Re: Social distancing. - 06/09/20 11:08 PM

Yep this colony was right along a right-of-way ditch and a field ditch that ran perpendicular to the road.

caviar for dinner?

Re: Social distancing. - 06/10/20 10:48 PM

Nah,tossed 9 of them back-too small,kept 3 pickerel and a pike for supper.
The small sturgeon are fun to catch and a good sign in the river that they are reproducing.
