Symptoms of lymes? - 06/11/20 12:30 PM

I am wondering if I have lymes? I have no other symptoms other than left arm pit Is very Sore, thinking my lymph nodes are swollen., sore just laying doing nothing. No other symptoms but I am a little wore out but that’s is usually the case as I work 7 days a week. I have had some deer ticks bits on recently but I don’t think I have had them for more than a few hours, I just pulled off so certainly could of left head of tick attached to me.. If I get tested for lymes do they test for all the other illness? Not sure where to go to make sure their all up on tick illness. Any advice

When I had it, they told me the blood test is only 50% accurate. They treat with Doxycycline anyway. I waited too long to go to the doc and was in bad shape. 3 weeks ago my wife had a tick on her leg. Not long after that my wife had a rash, bullseye around the bite, migraine, fever, and was exhausted. The next day she had body aches, by the 3rd morning (the day she went to the doc) her joints in her fingers were swollen and hurting. Don't wait, get checked out.

I think it makes sense to get a test. I had Lymes but only had fatigue.

A Lymes test would only test for Lymes but if conditions persist they will start testing for all kinds of things.

Good luck.

Take a look at the Lyme disease association web sight there's only a couple places for a accurate test. Symptoms can mimic or be just about anything.

My MD sent my test away for Lymes, took a while to get results, they also checked for leptospirosis. The initial diagnosis was PMR. And a rheumatologist confirmed it. Extremely painful tendons around the neck, shoulders and upper legs.

My wife had Lyme disease twice, and it has really messed with her internal organs over the past dozen years since she had it the first time. Don't take chances, go get checked out.

(By the way there is no such things as lymes disease, it's called Lyme Disease. If you spell it correctly when searching or whatever you'll get a lot better info.)

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn. is on top of it. Spent a week there and they got me back. I had Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis and was on my way out. Joints were locked up like severe rheumatoid arthritis and passing out from a messed up heart stroke which it also causes. They hit me with everything they had and biopsied me for Giant cell arteritis because it will make you go blind before they can diagnose it.
They are hard to get into with appointments, but if your sick enough you just sit in the waiting room and they will get you in. I did that.
I was lucky and didn't lose my memory and I got my joints back.
If you think you have it don't wait because it can and will trash you beyond recovery.
Good Luck

Mayo is an awesome place to be when your down.

They don't take your clothes away from you, and if your not a pass out risk you can get dressed and go everywhere even out side.
I had the freezing sweats and the nurses kept bringing me piles of heated blankets.
Can't say enough good about them.
Another symptom is having the pain move from joint to joint around your whole body. Like being possessed by demons. from feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, hands around and around.
Sense of taste screwed up & everything tastes rotten. I hadn't ate for two weeks.

dkrug-That giant cell arthritis is nothing to mess with. Some with PMR develop it. Every recheck my doc checks for it (by symptoms-no biopsies).

Re: Symptoms of lymes? - 06/11/20 01:44 PM

Yes I am very fortunate to have recovered. I know that God has me on my bonus round.
I put it off because it was right after a heart attack and thought it was a heart problem, which it was because of the messed up beat.
II must have picked up the tick from mowing on the farm where the deer and coyote run our drainage ditches like an interstate highway.
Riding a mower is about the only thing I could do because a gallon of milk weighs too much to lift.
We hadn't had it in our area and then a few farmers got it within a few miles.
That CDC was following up on the spread of it in our area.

Correct. Unfortunately a 'gift' from my state. Discovered in Lyme , Connecticut.
People got upset over the term ' Wuhan virus or Chinese virus ' well , sorry , that's where it came from. Just the same reason Lyme disease was named , point of origin.

Helped a young friend of mine remove a tick from his lower leg the other day. His first incident with a tick. He really freaked out a bit. Got it out intact , he consulted a doctor who advised to monitor for symptoms and seek medical help if needed.

Jacks symptoms of Lyme Disease is extensive. The longer you wait the worse it gets and is harder to diagnose. As others have mentioned the 2 tests give a false negative roughly 75% of the time and that is within the 2 weeks of a tick bite.

For those that went to Mayo what did they give you to treat the Lyme?

Re: Symptoms of lymes? - 06/11/20 03:52 PM

The test the Drs office gave me had 2 results. Both negative.

Whatever you do,

don't let them give you Cipro to treat Lyme Disease.

My symptoms were bi-lateral severe pain and swelling in the legs, hips, hands,
and severe fatigue,as well as sudden onset of arthritis all around.

had three false negatives before they had a positive test.

Ouch that sounds terrible. My drs want me to go to Mayo but dealing with insurance has been a nightmare. Then add the travel restrictions with covid.

Thousands of people are being misdiagnosed and treated for other diseases they don't have unless mayo has a Lyme literate doctor I would look else where. The newest data I heard is doxycycline is not the best choice anymore as it forces the bacteria into hiding it's a very very smart/tricky bacteria do yourself a favor an look at the Lyme disease association web sight.

Not sure on that, but they said they hit me with everything because I was close to dying and they weren't sure what all I had because I let it ride too long. The Di-oxy was part of it.
I think I read on here that Zim's Patrice had it and found a doctor for long term treatment, instead of a quick fix.
It's not like the flu where in 3 days it's over. It's in your cells and re-occurs.
That's why I stay out of discussions about disability with good days and bad days.
Until you have been there you have no idea.

Re: Symptoms of lymes? - 06/11/20 08:47 PM

LOTS of quack lyme disease specialists out there. Usually run a "Lyme clinic". CDC will tell you about everything you need to know about lyme disease and its treatment. There are no "special" treatments. Those that are are quackery. Placebo makes almost everyone feel better, for awhile. That being said, early treatment is key. Most people that feel like they have lyme disease after being treated have post-lyme disease syndrome, which can be awful and last for the rest of your life. Thise are the ones usually ssuckered into a special "Lyme clinic" and treated with many doses of antibiotics amongst other things. Man, I hate a quack, can't you tell? There used to be a vaccine out for lyme dz. I don't know what happened, but they took it off the market years ago. A good lyme vaccine would be worth a billion bucks today.

Could you educate us more on what has happened to your wife.
Or is it to personal to discuss ?

Trust me it's wicked.
After getting home from the hospital, every time I went outside in the yard I would wash my clothes and take a shower; as soon as I went back inside.

Never new fire ants ate ticks, but they sure don't take a chance on them hitch hiking into California.

Problem with Lymes is that the symptoms vary so much it's hard to diagnose. Get a doctor that knows about the disease and treatment
