Cabela's Rant - 06/24/20 11:26 AM
So this may be a little long winded but I thought I would share my recent experience at Cabelas. I had completely forgotten about a musky tournament that my son and I had entered until this past Tuesday. In a rush I am going through my logs to see what has worked on these bodies of water in the past as it's been a while since I fished any of the lakes. In trying to pair down some of the baits and boxes I realized that I didn't have certain colors of certain baits so in a panic I start looking online to see if Fleet Farm or Cabelas have what I am looking for. Normally I would just order what I needed from the Musky Shop.
So I see that Cabelas has two of the baits that I need in the colors that I need. Head over after work and I immediately found one of the baits that I was looking for but not the other. Website says that they are "available" at this store so they should be somewhere. I ask a guy who is stocking the shelf and he flat tells me that if it's not on they shelf they are out. I said I don't even see the placard for a spot on the shelf are they stocked in another aisle. Again I get if it's not on the shelf they are out.
Well I looked some more and another guy comes by and I ask him. Get basically the same answer. I told him that it say available on the website so they are here somewhere. Now if it had said "limited quantities" I would assume that they sold out. I ask if he could look on his little computer but without a barcode apparently that thing is useless. He told me that they were probably in a box in back but that he wasn't going to look through them to look which is something that I have had other salesman do before at this store. I asked to speak with a manager and he told me he would get someone for me.
Ten minutes later I am still waiting so I walk around the aisle to where these two are stalking the shelves. Almost immediately after seeing me they both walked away. So I head to the counter to pay for the baits that I had. Yes I needed these baits that bad that I still bought them. Told the cashier and his statement was "ya that will happen". I asked if a manger was available he stated that one were but if I called the store the operator could get someone much faster for me. In the parking lot I called every extension 3 times without and answer on any.
So I called corporate and waited on hold for 45 minutes before I was able to talk to someone. I really wanted them to understand that they potentially lost a $4-$500 dollar sale that day. Yes musky fishing is an addiction and although I was only there 4 or 5 baits which still cost me $120 I am very susceptible to anything shiny and new. LOL. Anyway still have not heard a word back from the Store manager or anyone from Cabela's. Since Bass Pro bought it out the customer service has gone down the drain. Just have to shop elsewhere.
