4th July Fireworks..

4th July Fireworks.. - 06/30/20 01:14 PM

Most all the big fire works shows around here been canceled this year. They don't want to be responsible for making crowds that won't social distance. With that happening news has reported that fireworks sale at tents and stores has gone wild. Guess them tents in parking lots of big store are making record sales..
I've never been one to buy much for fire works kinda thought was waste money, rather buy bullets.

Just wonder though in light of all the recent buy American push. Hate China for the virus...etc...

Isn't there just a bit of irony in the 4th celebration? Celebrating our independence by blowing up thousands of dollars worth Chines Fireworks..
Local News here had a young fella pushing a loaded cart out to his car.. He looked at his slip told reporter was $1.400.00 worth in cart. Wanted his family to have nice 4th celebration. Guess he didn't need his stimulus to buy food??? I know I used mine to pay my insurance for sure wasn't going to just blow it all up.
So how much money is everyone else going to blow up. I may drinks some up but won't be blowing any up..

We usually don't, but it being the first year I've been with my mom for the 4th in over 15 years, I'm gonna buy a couple boxes of mortar shells to shoot over our pond. No big deal.... just a bonfire, some hotdogs on sticks, and few things that go BOOM lol.

there is hardly a lack of Irony in so much of what Americans do to celebrate things , 4th of July often tops it however.

1400 would buy a lot of bullets , powder and primer shooting a 1/4 mile seems like a more American pass time than fireworks.

however the corn is up so I have to settle for 218 yards max.

thinking Ribs and potato salad

our holiday day off is Friday, however I am going to get me some holiday pay and over time looking at almost 20 hours of the OT this week

I don’t normally buy fireworks...but I bought a huge display for the fourth this year. I’ve been putting together my redneck version of mortar tube racks for weeks. Going to shoot the show over my pond.

I’m glad I ordered my cannon fuse when I did...it’s been in route for over two weeks and looks like it should deliver by Friday...I hope! The project has been a tremendous amount of tedious work....and if my fusing works to plan it will all be over in less than 10 minutes! My wife says I’ll either be in jail or the ER by the time it’s over!!

I bought some since I no longer have that grouchy neighbor. We're going to a friend's house for a bbq

All I buy is propane for the bbq grill since I do the cooking and the guests bring the fireworks they even clean up the aftermath too or try to . I also keep the garden hose hooked up & ready just in case ha ha
I miss bottle rockets !

Be careful bvr retriever I did a similar thing last year and by about the 10th mortar round I had tubes blow up on me luckily just burnt my shirt and I had ringing ears for a while. If your using tubes that came with it check the clay cake in the bottom of the tube every now and then its what absorbs the shock if their toast don't use em

Last weekend, 4 different neighbors of mine were shooting off very nice fireworks and I don't have many neighbors. This weekend should be better. I've never bought a firework in my entire life.

We're ready to go here. Usually we throw a big party for the 4th, but this year the neighbor is hosting and it'll be pretty small. [Linked Image]

Just going to put some ribs on the BBQ I think the critters don't like the noise and I can do without it as well. I'll spend some extra on powder primers and bullets this year though. They may come in more handy the way things are going.

Cannon crackers were the best.

Every family in our group of friends pitches in whatever they want. This year it ended up being $1500.00 I think 10 people/families. It will be a loud weekend for sure. We have a bunch of candles, rockets, smoke bombs, poppers, beaver busters, and crackle balls for the daytime and fountains rockets mortars and cakes for the nights. Always a great time with patriotic songs playing during the shows.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!!!

I have a love/hate relationship with fireworks. I enjoy watching them and hearing them. But the stress they cause my dogs I would rather not deal with. My old girl will dig away in any corner she can find and my neurotic cur will run from one end of the house to the other trying to kill what is making the noise.

I made two 50 shot racks, one 30 shot rack, five 18 shot fan racks, and three 7 shot straight racks for the 21 gun salute finale. All the racks will be fused together with timed cannon fuse. Each pipe will only be shooting one canister shell. I have other 500 gram cakes that are fused independent to the rack setup.

I know you're not supposed to use PVC but I did....you simply cannot buy HDPE pipe anywhere other than a firework outlet for an outrageous price. The ID of the PVC is a bit large and you do loose lift due to blow-by. However, I fixed that problem by wrapping each canister shell with 15 wraps of masking tape to increase the diameter of the firework. I wrapped 15 wraps on the top and another 15 wraps on the bottom of each shell to even the weight distribution. Even with the extra weight, the launch height is significantly improved by wrapping with tape. The PVC pipes are plugged with 1 1/2" of quick crete in the bottom of each pipe. In the event of a failure resulting in PVC shrapnel, I plan to sandbag completely around the entire rack setup. I also plan to standup several 4x8 sheets of plywood as a screen directly in front of the rack/sandbag setup. The audience and myself will be over 360 feet away. I plan to have buckets of water and the fire extinguisher at the ready.

It should be a memorable experience...hopefully for the good, not the bad!

Brice Prairie goes pretty wild on the 4th. Professional level fireworks going off all over the place! Our Jack Russell is about as gunshy as a dog can get so he'll be pretty miserable. One year we came home on the 5th to find a ton of fireworks trash all over our roof and yard which ticked me off a little.

About the only thing I am planning to blow up is myself with Brats, beer, homemade Blackberry Pie, and anything else I can cram into my face!
