US Created Slavery - 07/01/20 03:29 PM

According to Sen. Tim Kaine, D-VA on the senate floor, the US "didn't inherit slavery from anybody. We created it."
A very ignorant statement.

Every society has had slavery. It existed long before America did, including by American Indians who had slaves. At least a million Europeans were kidnapped by African Muslims and forced into slavery. The vast majority were starved or beaten to death.

Portuguese, not Americans, brought the first slaves to Jamestown in 1619 (the New York Times). We are the only country that fought a war to end slavery.

Kaine made slavery extra bad by calling slavery an American invention. A US senator condemning his own country. Kaine needs to let his brain catch up with his mouth.

Very few here may know that in my past I did a LOT of business in antique trade beads, all of which came from Africa...not Native American graves. All those beads were there because they were traded to Africans who captured and "sold" slaves to the European slave traders. The beads were purchased in Africa and shipped to the U.S. by the barrels by my suppliers.

That's a bit of history of the slave trade that not a whole lot of folks realize or choose to believe.

Based on that, they should go to Africa and start protesting and rioting. See how long that's tolerated.

Every culture since time began had slaves..You move into a new area, kill the men, rape the women, then kill them, kill the young kids , and take the young strong ones, or pretty ones, as slaves. No sense wasting a resource.

Got too many? , sell then to the highest bidder. That was the basic "business" plan of conquer and control...

Re: US Created Slavery - 07/01/20 04:24 PM

The word slave comes from Slav, because Slavic people were enslaved in very large numbers by the Muslims in the 800s, over 1200 years ago. The Slavs are white.

The Africans that were captured by other Africans, who were not sold as slaves abroad were mostly eaten by the Africans who captured them. The Portugese called the cannibal tribes that sold them slaves and who ate the rest Jaga or Jagas. The African tribes Yaka, Suku, Teke, Luba, Kuba and Hungaan were the main suppliers of African slaves and ate many thousands on non salable Africans.

Are we no longer using the standard anthropology terms to group folks, taught since the 1780's?

Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid.

I guess classification will now be by color?
That's a bit complex on one hand and totally subjective on the other hand.

PR - white is not strictly a region of Europe heritage color, correct?

Haplogroups are probably the most accurate way to describe groups of people from different regions.

I'm so embarrassed to have Tim Kaine represent my home state in our federal government.

Slavery existed in ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Persia, among the Incas, Aztecs, Maya and numerous other ancient civilizations. In addition, slavery existed in England and the English colonies in north america before they became the United States. Slavery existed among African tribes encountered by explorers from European nations, making it very easy to purchase slaves from those tribes. Later, when the 13 original colonies won their independence from England 240 years ago, slavery still existed in the formerly English colonies. In other words it still existed in the English empire at that time. 28 years after our nation was born the importation of slaves was outlawed. A short 85 years after our nation was born slavery was abolished in the United States. Tens of thousands of whites died fighting for the union in the war that ended slavery. That was 155 years ago. Many whites in this country today have no ancestors that lived in america when slavery was legal, let alone having lived in the southern states where slavery was legal. So, there are a multitude of reasons that blaming whites living in America today for slavery is just a lie. It's time for the blacks in America to stand up and tell the Democrat party that they are tired of the same old pandering and lies, and stand up for themselves the same way the Irish, Chinese, Italians, and every other non-native population has done. I'll not be apologizing for being white or for working my butt off to be successful. I'll not be putting anyone else down due to their race either, but if you won't make something of yourself don't expect me to have any respect or sympathy for you.

I've said this for years...We cannot move forward, because NO ONE will let the past be history...EVERYONE is caught up in who's fault it is, and not HOW we can make change for the good. One side wants this, the other side wants that...we have to find common ground for the NOW, not what has happened 200 years ago, or 15 minutes ago! We should ALL be held accountable for our own actions and decisions, not those of who we have no immediate relation to. (Hopefully) Rant over.

It has been tough to argue logically (pitting your facts against someone else's facts) with people for years now.
I miss those old days where we could maybe teach/learn from each other every now and again, and even disagree without name calling.

Now, it seems to have gone beyond name calling. It's F bombing this, and F bombing that.
I told my kids when they were young, when they'd turn on garbage on TV, and I'd sternly restrict garbage TV consumption in our home, and tell them in no uncertain terms, "Turn it off," that garbage in - garbage out was a theory I could envision.

Some didn't turn off their TV's, by the looks of the news reports.

What about people who have inherited wealth or property from former slaveowners? Should their assets, to the extent they can be traced, be taken for compensation to the descendants of slaves, who after all may have inherited property of their own if their ancestors had been paid wages?

I understand the arguments for it, but I don't favor reparations at public expense.

I think the descendants of the northern textile owners should surrender property and wealth to families of former slaves. After all if it weren't for those textile owners lust for money and power, which was derived from cotton grew in the south, there wouldn't have been a reason for slavery.

Yes sir. The best number we have is 306,000 slaves were brought here form Africa. 6 million went to Brazil!!! Since slavery ended 2 million blacks have immigrated here. I can’t believe 2 million would want to come to such a terrible place like this. Lol

Don't forget about sugar. The Caribbean and the US southern regions grew the "cane." The Brits took their enslaved to their Caribbean island territories. Sugar barons were as prosperous as lumber barons in that era, and all were some of the wealthiest in the world at that time.

Anybody got a past relative that enjoyed sugar?

James, I respectability disagree with you. The word equality makes me very nervous. When people are made equal Liberty is lost. That’s the fight between left and right. This Contry was founded on Liberty. France in part was founded on equality. Yes we are all equal in Gods eyes, but the liberty we have sets each individual apart. With liberty you have the freedom to pursue all life has no matter the color of your skin.

Equality under the law is good thing to strive for. I don't see how anybody can say people are equal any other way. If we were all equal every other way the olympics would always end in a tie and jeopardy would have lasted two days instead of decades.

If equality is all they are looking for should we do away with the preferential treat they currently enjoy?

To the best of my knowledge there are laws on the books that grant them equality.

You can’t legislate everybody “liking you.” I am extremely prejudice towards my neighbors. I don’t even wave to them when we pass on the road. What do they have in common? They are criminals and the whole bunch are white as cotton.

Exactly Danny! The leftist push for equality and use of the word equality is the key to there movement. Here’s a great example.

2 kids immigrate to America. One from Africa one from China. As the go through school everything about the two is identical. They both graduate with honors and have the same SAT or ACT test scores. They both apply to Harvard. The young black man has 256 points added to his SAT score. The young Chinese man has 50 deducted from his score. All in the name of equality!! They are now equal in Harvard’s eyes but the Chinese man has lost something. Equality destroys Liberty

And yes Harvard like many does this to equalize admissions.

Would you use the value back then or now?

Would room and board, meals and medical expenses be deducted from the final tally?

Sometime, somewhere, I'm sure I have an ancestor or two that were wronged by someone. I demand to be compensated.

Everything they see goes in their eyes and out of their mouths without ever going through their brains.

I think that equality works both ways ... they don't want to live in Africa like the animals... then stop acting like animals here. They are not the king of the jungle, here or there.

Equality of opportunity yes. Equal outcomes...No way ! That is up to the individual to achieve. Not up to government or society to provide.

Blacks have equality under the law. They are pushing for special privileges same as the elderly, handicapped, etc have. Regardless of how much they are given, it will never be enough. The main stream media has a lot of impressionable young people agreeing with them.

According to Rev. James David Manning, a black preacher:
70% of black men desert their children.
70% of black man don't marry the mother of the children they have fathered.
There are 1.2 million black men in prison in America.
50% of the crime committed in the US are committed by black people. Yet, they only make up 17% of the total population.

Rev. Manning says black people are destroying themselves by these violent actions. They just aren't smart enough to realize it.

I believe that reparations are in order.

Lots of people owned slaves. Slaves; weren't cheap. When the government decided to separate them without compensation, those people were harmed.

Reparations are in order.

Re: US Created Slavery - 07/04/20 05:25 PM

"The use of slave and forced labour in Nazi Germany and throughout German-occupied Europe during World War II took place on an unprecedented scale.[2] It was a vital part of the German economic exploitation of conquered territories. It also contributed to the mass extermination of populations in occupied Europe. The Germans abducted approximately 12 million people from almost twenty European countries; about two thirds came from Central Europe and Eastern Europe.[1] Many workers died as a result of their living conditions – extreme mistreatment, severe malnutrition, and worse tortures were the main causes of death."

Looks like brutal white slavery was alive and well in Europe in the 1930's and 40's

What do you guys think happened to many of the freed slaves that the Union (Lincoln) just threw out there to fend for themselves? It wasn't pretty. At least the Northern States had gradual transitions from slavery to freedom, so that masses of the slaves would not die.

That’s also why a lot of slaves stayed and helped rebuild the plantations they were once slaves on. Not all “masters” were evil men. To this day, they are the most loyal and honest folks I’ve ever met. I’ve even heard that in some bills of sale, that certain people must stay on the land and kept on with a job, even to this day. It’s all some of these men know. Most have raised families there, but very few of their children have stayed. And most owners have provided “assistance” with their children’s education...everything from Doctors to military pilots.
We recently “heard” that ANTIFA/BLM was going to come through the South to “burn down” plantations. The first to volunteer as guard or security were all the old black men, although everyone took part for a week or so until it was determined it was all talk.
