He Said, "NEXT TIME WEAR A MASK"

He Said, "NEXT TIME WEAR A MASK" - 07/02/20 04:03 PM

This morning on my way to work I went through the drive-thru at my favorite McDonald's to get my morning coffee. I order, pay and drive to the second window to pick it up. Some red-headed punk kid server hands it to me and says, "Next time wear a mask."

I ask, "What did you just say" and he repeats himself.

I went all "Karen on him and ask to see the manager...I'm joking! LOL

I took my coffee, told him to "(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) off" and drove away.

In hindsight, I should have gone around again. grin

Went to the local C store today to get gas and a soda. When I walked in the kid behind the counter said "Sir, you need a mask." I said, "I have a medical condition" and just kept walking. When I get to the counter, the owner of the store (whom I've known for 20 years) rings me up. He says, "So, can I ask what kind of medical condition you have?" I told him that under current HIPA regulations, my medical condition and all things related to it are private and confidential, and I have a right not to disclose them to any person.

He said, "OK." Then I said, "Kerry, you've known me for 20 years. I come in here several times a week. You asked nicely so I'll tell you. I have an eye problem."

Then I winked at him as I walked out and said, "I just can't see wearing a mask."

I've got a pic of the law that says the same thing.
1 of the stores I stop told me that I had to wear 1. Showed it to her and she laughed and
said I had heard about that.

What harm would a mask do if your wore it in someone else’s business. None, but there is a chance it could help slow the viral spread. Get you medical advice form your doctor, not a politician.

We need to stop worrying about the number of cases and focus on the number of hospitalizations. Protect the vulnerable populations and we won't overload the hospitals. The more young people that get CV19 the better, since the vast majority have no issue dealing with it. Everyone that gets it and gets over it without issue puts us one step closer to herd immunity. Open the beaches and open the bars and let the young folks go rub elbows. Us old folks can stay at home and stay safe and soon this crap will be behind us.

It’s all political. Have people died? Yes. Have people lived after getting it. Yes. That’s is with any virus or health condition. What is everyone afraid of? If you know where your soul is going after you die you shouldn’t be afraid. My dad died of a heart attack when I was 9 years old. I know about losing someone very close. That’s part of life and Gods plan not mine. I refuse to wear a mask and that is my choice and why we live/ lived in a free country. Everyone have a safe and great weekend.

Re: He Said, "NEXT TIME WEAR A MASK" - 07/02/20 06:23 PM

Its all part of the test run. Enjoy!

P.S. My brother, who is a non-private physician (you can figure it out) told me a couple things this morning about the covid positive rise the last few weeks. You can take or leave it as you will.

His facility (remember, no private) uses the 45 minute test results. Most private hospital systems contract out the covid lab testing and the lab companies are still using the 4-day test for which they can charge more. The hospital on the other hand, can admit the person as "covid possible" and treat them the full work up at 8k a day until the lab test comes yeah or nay (you do the math on x number of patients). Right now, the people who are admitted and eventually come back negative are be classed as "covid" byt he state and then the CDC. I don't know if they are retracted later, who knows, probably not.

Another major driver of hospital admits is that the normal stuff, especially "elective" procedures, got all stuffed away until "further notice" because of the precieved run on the hospitals in ALL locations in the U.S. That assumption was false but it didn't stop the that order-- my wife knows RNs that were furloughed here because places such as same day surgery were shut down. Well, "further notice" is now and the issues that were going to be addressed in March or April haven't gone away, maybe have gotten worse. So, many of these people are now in the hospital and maybe test positive for the virus but its not covid they're dealing with, they are basically fine with that. They still get counted as covid patients.

The situation is a lot more nuanced than what we hear about because the these interesting aspects of reality don't fit the narrative that 'they" want spread. We'll see how many people get jailed for not wearing masks...-

P.S. If you're going to wear a mask (I wear a bandana in some locations), wash or change it regularly. Otherwise, your dirty mask will probably make you sick faster than catching corona. Good luck!

Well...I've never told her to "F off". Don't think I've ever said anything like that to another human's face at any point in my life past the age of 13 or so.

Most of what I say to my wife is "What?, I can't hear you? What?", Or something along those lines.

19 year old girl working the McD. drive through was physically attacked and ended up in the hospital for telling a customer they needed a mask.
These kids are told by managers that they are required to do this.
Tough job for young kids, dealing with people that think it is a God given right for certain people, to ignore what you have been told to do.

Why should people stay home because of idiots??? you have the right to go somewhere else if a mask is so hard for you to wear. Don't take it out on young people that are working and doing what their bosses or strore owners tell them to do.
Tell your boss you refuse to do what he or she tells you to do---and see what happens.

Too many people are too stupid, ignorant, entitled, spoiled, to follow rules nowadays.
You teach children to follow rules in your home, businesses will tell you the rules to follow when you are using their services.
If you dont like the rules-go somewhere else or stay home.
Too many grown men act like spoiled children nowadays.
And swearing at a young kid who is following the rules set down by his workplace makes you double stupid/ignorant.

There's so much contradictory information about this virus/ infection. Numbers are so messed up not to mention the number of testings doesn't exclude who has been tested before.

I thought the story was a mask decreases the likelyhood of the wearer infecting other people if they are infected? Are medical professionals claiming the other direction,or is this just how the narrative has evolved?

So I googled it and the masks are still to prevent water droplets from reaching other people. So the dumb kid probably got some water droplets from the F.U. response he got from his suggestion when the O.P. probably would never have said a word and there would have been near zero chance of the kid getting infected from a driver in the drive thru who never said a word. Poor kid. frown

Many refer to sin as one of the deadly 7 sins; pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust. The Scripture reference as being Romans 6:23; The wages of sin are death.
Quite commonly here on TMan, there are posts referring to a prideful act being necessary or called for because of ___________ (fill in the blank).

In a perfect world it would have demonstrated to the youngster that when a man is minding his own business and not harming anyone you should not direct ignorant, rude statements toward him in an irritatingly demanding manner without expecting a rude response.

I seriously doubt the entitled, whiny punk learned that lesson.

If I would have meekly complied, whipped out my mask and donned it all the while profusely apologizing for my horrible lack of empathy, it would have caused me to become angry afterwards and I would have stewed on it for hours. That would have caused me a lot of stress and distraction. And since I was working on staging far above the ground again today, any distraction could cause a mistake leading to a fatal fall.

So Keith, in addition to displaying my grammatical skills, my response to the punk may well have saved my life.

We all know stress kills.

Other than displaying your grammatical skills, what did that accomplish?

That was wrong. ....should have told him to go **** himself. In today's world, he quite possibly could accomplish that.

There is a reason that everyone is asked to wear a mask. For the uninformed it is to reduce the spreading of a virus called Covid19. Watch the news today we had 50,000 new cases. States are setting new records of new cases. Hospitals are running out of rooms to house victims of the coronavirus. If you don't think this is serious just talk to nurses and emergency hospital personnel. Florida alone had 10,000 new cases. Coronavirus is on the rise in 37 states.

Do you wear a seat belt? Do you wear a shirt and shoes into a restaurant? Do you do other things that you may not agree with but for the betterment of friends and family you do anyway?

All over the news they are showing how wearing a mask can help stop the droplets from your mouth getting in contact with other people. Our VP wore a mask at his last news conference. McConnell was urging everyone to wear a mask.

I do not believe I am living in fear but living responsibly and respectfully in that I don’t want to catch this virus nor do I want to pass it on to anyone.

I sincerely hope that those that choose to not protect themselves or others by wearing a mask at least have the courtesy to stay home and not visit their parents or elderly relatives.

POP quiz, you are driving thru Chicago or Minniapolis and you take a wrong turn, you realize you are in a bad neighborhood. Are you A) gonna put on a mask, or B) check the chamber on your pistol? one is illegal, one is mandatory, one will get you laughed at, one will get you home. Those same people that tell you masks are goood for you , most likely passed bills restricting firearms.

No. Yes, but I wear a shirt and shoes at home as well. Can't think of any example of being against something but yet it being in the best interest of my family.

If my parents or husband were concerned about it, and wished to remain isolated, I would respect their wishes. However, they all go out all the time and none of them wear masks, so I see no reason not to visit them.

Where do you hear about the virus? The news. Which is political.

I got booted from Walmart and Target for not wearing one today. If you have an autoimmune disease it's YOUR responsibility to wear a properly fit tested N95 mask. Just like before the virus it was your responsibility to protect yourself, not mine. Wash your hands, wipe with toilet paper, cover your mouth when you sneeze, and all is well.

This world is headed for a very bad place.

I had an opposite experience in my local McD's just yesterday ,
there were 10 cars in line ( slowest one I've ever seen ) so I went in ,
stood at the counter for awhile no one there , so I walked over to the kitchen
to get someones attention , all 5 people cooking had masks , every one of them had them pulled down
so their noses were out , then the shift manager came out to take my order ( without a mask ) and gave me an attitude
because I didn't have a mask on , things were said , lol then I had a nice talk with corporate from the driveway .

I agree with you whole heartedly. I’ve never wore a mask and don’t ever intend to start. I just think it’s puzzling to see so many claim that “Doctors”, “experts” or “scientists” all say wear a mask. I also find it odd that health care workers nationwide are being furloughed or just sent home because there simply aren’t enough patients in hospitals to justify a normal staff. I personally know the director of the Covid floor in one of the largest hospitals in the south and he is outraged. His take is that healthcare systems are on the brink of going under because of this nonsense.

Did I miss some profound explanation in a previous thread? If medical experts throughout the world, Doctors, professionals who spent 9 plus years in university studying science and medicine and collectively agree wearing masks will have a significant impact on the reduction of the spread of an illness which will continue to kill our seniors and other at risk persons how can anyone argue that it's a political issue. This place is getting more bizarre with every passing day.

People interacting with Covid are saying this on a daily basis in a number of areas around the United States. Interestingly, most of those are in states not controlled by a politician with a D behind their name. I've seen first hand Covid. I've also seen first hand what it can do to a healthcare system for lack of work not being over run. Travelers coming through are begging to stay on to work because they can't even find an assignment. Hospitals are having hiring freezes around the country. It just depends which experts you want to believe I guess. The ones that are making projections and models or the ones living it.

Re: He Said, "NEXT TIME WEAR A MASK" - 07/03/20 03:20 AM

I have two relatives that work for the two biggest hospital chains in Michigan. Both have said that while Covid is out there it is nothing like the media and certain politicians are portraying it. The ICU beds and ventilators are at normal capacity as compared to previous years. Both systems test and admit Covid patients (necessary or not) because that is where the money is currently being dumped. They both said that many of the normal staff were furloughed for months and are just now starting to be called back selectively.

I'm now wondering what the case/mortality rate of Covid really is. Less than 1%?
If as many people as they say are coming down with it yet the death rate is not climbing at pace does that not mean that the case/mortality rate is decreasing?
If the death rate does not increase why would we not go for herd immunity?
How many people died with Covid as opposed to having died from Covid?

On the McDonald's drive through thing, it's funny they worry about masks for Covid yet serve food that is high in fat and cholesterol which contributes to almost 900,000 heart attack and stroke victims per year.

Re: He Said, "NEXT TIME WEAR A MASK" - 07/03/20 03:38 AM

Just heard a show that had four hospital CEO's from the Houston area on, they said that the news was reporting their ICU beds at 90% due to Covid. All four CEO's stated that while they are around 90% of ICU beds in use that is the same as they are every year. I suppose it would not be fiscally responsible for them to build a hospital and not have patients in it. ICU beds and ventilators are not just for Covid patients.

Went through the same McDonald’s drive-through this morning and didn’t wear my mask. Out of the four or five other folks in the drive-through I did see one guy with a mask on top of his head that lowered it when he got to the pick up window.

The same kid served me my coffee but didn’t say anything about me not having a mask on. I’m guessing customers complained about his attitude to either corporate or management and he was told to knock it off. And no, he didn’t spit in my coffee, I watched him make it.

While I don’t think cussing at him was necessarily helpful, I have been bad to lose my temper often as well. These people need a dose of reality. That’s the problem, the left has lived in their safe spaces and fictional worlds for so long that they can’t differentiate between it and reality. I told my wife who is a Doctor, that under no circumstance would I be following government direction for my family or my well being. She asked why and my exact words were “Government can’t get it right”. I made a living contracting from the government and know first hand how horribly mismanaged our money is and how not one time have they ever made a correct business deal or decision.
Since we shut our business down, every single prediction I have made has come to fruition exactly as I said it would. She asked me, “How in the world could you have known that?” It’s real simple. The Government cant get it right! What they say or urge you to do, you can almost 180 and be closer to the truth or answer. It was that way when I made a living off them and it’s that way now 15 years later. We finally decided to use that to our advantage and saved our county 5 million dollars over 3 years and we cut the government out as the middle man. Now we are prosperous and our county has a much better budget and we have surrounding counties begging for contract work. Moral of the story, I’ve never seen government be correct! Not once in 20 years. I certainly wouldn’t allow them to make decisions about my family’s health. Tin foil hats is a cop out by people who are oblivious or have never worked for or around it! And there are thousands of oblivious people because if they saw how their tax dollars were used many of them would be outraged!

So all you tin foil believers do not think a cloth covering over your mouth will block water vapor and or lessen the distance it will travel? Another test; go into a walk in freezer and breath through your mouth, or talk, or shout without a mask. Can you see how far your water vapor travels? Now try it with a mask. Compare!

Luckily I make this test every winter so I don't need a warmer freezer for the test.

I agree totally that we live in an idiocracy, but fact is fact.

I also have two relatives that work in hospitals in the metro Detroit area, in ICU, and they had a very different story during the big wave of cases and deaths this spring. Both my wife's aunt (30+ in ICU) and her cousin who has been in for only 3 years were in tears talking to us all about it on a family Zoom call, recalling how many people they intubated and watched die cut off from their families.

It's all about location. Up north where we live, most of the hospital staff are begging for work, and there's worry of more people dying from things like heart attacks cuz they aren't going to the hospital.

But there is no denying how terrible it has been where the virus hits hard. Simply no argument. It is not the same as the flu, blah blah blah. Those of you who are denying it out of political rigidity, leave most of us speechless.

It is okay if I get it. However I may want to lesson the chance I give it to a member of a high risk group by wearing a mask when I am near them. I wouldn't mandate it. I would hope people could figure out how this works and choose a proven method for reducing the chance of infecting people they don't want to infect.

This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows cloth face coverings reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of cloth face coverings is particularly important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult to maintain."

Why would anyone be bragging about treating someone in customer service like crap for doing their job to ensure they get to remain open and continue to have a job. Dealing with people like the op is the worst kind of customer...its embarrassing to all humans that anyone thinks its ok to treat some one like that and then brag about it. He wasn't doing his job. Did you read the original post? He was being rude to customers in the drive-thru, telling them to wear masks while inside their vehicles. Even though he was behind Plexiglas and was wearing a mask and gloves and there was zero chance of him catching anything from me or any other customer inside their vehicles.

Apparently there were complaints because he never said anything on subsequent visits. Management probably told him to knock it off.

When the company he works for puts policies in place so that they can remain open and that anyone who wants to do business there needs to also follow those policies and employees are required by their employer to follow said policies or risk being shut down and losing their job or causing others to lose their jobs then yes he becomes the mask police. It is not up to a kid working at a McDonald's franchise to create and impose his own rules for their customers on behalf of his employer. It would have been valuable for his manager to be aware of that encounter, since it might result in his franchise losing a regular customer.

Weak attempt Crit-R-Dun.

The facts are that I have been through that same McDonald's Drive-Thru a dozen or more times since the kis smarted off to me. The facts are that 90+% of the folks I see in the Drive-Thru line are not wearing mask, including myself. The facts are that the same red-headed punk is still serving. The facts are that he has not said anything about my lack of a mask during all those return trips and, as far as I can tell, is longer smarting off to anyone. He simply hands out the food and that's it.

Given those four facts I have come to the conclusion that he has stopped being an ignorant, rude jerk to customers. In my opinion this is due to his boss receiving complaints about his attitude or him personally being told off repeatedly by irate customers.

What opinion do those four facts lead you to?

Your reading comprehension really sucks doesn't it? He didn't "ask" me to "wear a mask next time." He demanded it. That has been very clearly pointed out on multiple posts.

And could you point out here I said "I am the better person?" The answer is no you can't. Because I didn't type that. Remember when I said, "I'm not competing in any popularity contest and I'm not not interested in earning "Good Person Points with dumb-arses like yourself or anybody else?"

It's every bit as likely that he was following the direction of his supervisor and instructing customers that store policy is that customers are to wear masks. I know for a fact that's a common practice here. It's also just as likely, being a young employee, that he's been sufficiently demoralized by rude customers and is no longer following those directions because he feels he doesn't get compensated enough to take the abuse. In any event I hope your anger at the time didn't result in more then the usual amount of spray from your mouth making contact with his hands, the money and or cards exchanged or the debit machine he's handling.

Another one with really bad reading comprehension skills. Read slowly and pay attention to the capitalized parts (the big letters).

Many stores here require masks to ENTER THE STORE. They have it clearly posted on entry doors. No store/restaurant/gas station requires you wear a mask IN THE PARKING LOT. I was in a Drive-Thru OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.

Had McDoanld's wanted me to wear a mask outside the building I'm certain there would have been a sign, THERE WAS NO SIGN. So you think management just decided to forgo signage and have their least experienced help inform people as they drove through? IS that what you really think? It sure sounds like it.

My anger was more like mild irritation, the same sort of response I have towards you. An no, there was no mouth spray. Even if there would have been, he was BEHIND PLEXIGLASS (missed that part several times didn't you)?

Well critter, that's about as far down as I can dumb it. If you still don't get it there's nothing I can do to help you understand.

I went thru a drive thru a week ago and the kid who gave me my food said to me "Don't be surprised if they want you to wear a mask shortly to come thru the drive thru." He was very polite about it I said really? He said "yeah upper management is tossing it around I guess. It's silly but just don't be surprised if the have signs up before long."

Not near as bad as all the mandated classes, and drug testing I'm constantly having to spend money on and spend considerable non-quality time attending. Went with a friend to a gun shop in nearby small town..Walk in door and there is a lady sitting behind counter wearing a mask. Is another guy father back behind counter also with mask. I stopped just inside the door look around for signs about needing a mask or what ever. So I ask the lady "Do you require a mask?" She says "No but please use the hand sanitizer that is there before you come all way in." Not a problem friend and I did the hand sanitizer thing went about looking around..
After reading here how some feel about the wear a mask don't wear a mask. I think now the right thing to have done would have been to politely ask her..
"Would you like us to wear a mask?"
I'm thinking that their trying to keep their shop and business open. They probably know that a lot of their customers like so many here won't wear a mask. Are going to get bent out of shape and (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) if ask to. So the clerks wear theirs and don't require their customers to wear one.
It's no skin off my arse to simple ask if they wish me to wear a mask. I had one in my pocket I just chose not to wear it unless ask. But how hard would it have been for me to simply ask if they would like me to wear it vs, do they require? makes it more shared responsibility don't it? I have no idea what medical conditions those people working there may or may not have.
I can make up my own mind about if I want or don't want to go into THEIR store. If they want to require a person in a mask or don't is up the them. Going in their business is still up to me and I don't see reason to get nasty either way.

There's no evidence yet that you can't get it twice.

Then how do they expect a vacine to work?

Careful talkin about grown men, you just might meet up with one someday.

I agree he should meet one someday.

I'm lost on the whole mask thing. If the ADA makes it illegal to ask about a medical condition, and it's illegal to discriminate against anybody with a medical condition, how can a business,or govt threaten with fines and refuse you entry to a business?

Buck, In PA it's more of a threat to the businesses for not "enforcing" the "rules". We've had to bars in town get fined for not enforcing the mask to enter the building rule and the social distancing rules. What they are doing is telling these restaurants and bars they'll take their food and liquor licenses away if they are non-compliant.

It's both here in Michigan. But I dont understand,if a business can't legally ask you your medical situation because you don't have a mask, but to deny you their business because your not wearing a mask is discrimination(per the American with Disabilities Act),how can a state come up with an order that supersedes a federal act?

I think as long as the restaurant/bar/grocery store make reasonable accommodations for you (ie grocery pick up, curbside pick up/delivery) then they are allowed to deny you entry.
