Would you choose a turkey for our national bird ?

Ben Franklin wanted that their heads go red, white and blue.

They should of gone with the bird that only lost by one vote to the eagle

I say go with the turkey. I have not tasted bald eagle yet.

They taste like a cross between a spotted own and a loon.

I was thinking about this some, seems that eagles are somewhat popular as mascots but you don't see too many turkeys as mascots......

It seems the turkey has be done wrong by the eagle and is now tearing down statues of any thing containg a eagle .

I'm pretty sure a full grown tom turkey has more meat than a bald eagle.

A wild bird is no dummy they can be rather crafty.

Gamecock only lost by one vote, no one brings that up anymore because of the negative light fighting roosters is viewed in.

I have much more respect and admiration for a wild turkey gobbler than a bald eagle.

Glorified buzzard in essence.

If the wild turkey was our national bird we probably wouldn’t be able to hunt them.

I have seen bald eagles many times feasting on coyote carcass piles. Thought turkeys were eating grasshoppers in my garden but they were eating greenbeans too.


I think our national bird should be a middle finger pointed at the hammer and sickle

..because the Wild Turkey is nobler/sharper and not a scavenger/bully.

Or china! Or both!

The Native Americans also had high respect for the eagle. I'm surprised they're not demanding we drop the eagle as our American symbol of freedom.

The Bald Eagles range s from Mexico north, coast to coast. Depending on which strain of wild Turkey, half of the country at best.
Then you have the "predator or prey" issue. My opinion is ifa bird was picked, someone thought it through pretty well.

When Ben Franklin recommended the wild turkey to be our USA symbol we did not have the domesticated type of turkeys we have today and the wild turkey had a different image then the turkey of today. So we chose a strikingly bold looking bird that is more of a carrion eater than a predator, but it looks strong and powerful. What we did now to protect that symbol is to the disdain of many who feel we have way, way too many raptors killing our wildlife today. Interesting how we manly times create our own issues.
