***Montana Setback Comments Needed by 7/25 Please - 07/10/20 06:16 PM
As many people as possible, please send the set-back comments encouraged below:

Sportspersons Alert:
At the June 25, 2020 MTFWP Commission meeting, during the portion of the meeting dealing
with swift fox trapping season and boundary changes, the subject of trapping setbacks on
excepted roads and trails became a main topic of discussion. While trapping setbacks on
excepted roads and trails was not listed as a part of the Commission motion to change the
swift fox trapping season and boundary; Becky Dockter, FWP legal counsel, opined that the
motion was written broadly and the Commission could accept public comment on installing
trapping setbacks on excepted roads and act on such, at the August 13, 2020 FWP
Commission meeting.
I have spoken with Vice Chair Stuker and it is imperative that the Commission hear your
voice – they will definitely be bombarded with comments from the anti-trapping community.
Comments need to be phoned in or sent prior to July 25th.
Please - by phone 406-444-7826; letter (MTFWP Commission – PO Box 200701 – Helena
MT 59620-0701) or email fwcomm@mt.gov send a message to the Commission asking that:
 Any motion, at the August meeting, dealing with imposing trapping setbacks on
excepted roads and trails have a one year sunset clause.
 Any motion, at the August meeting, dealing with imposing setbacks on excepted roads
or trails be put out for public comment and then voted on at the December meeting.
 That no final action on imposing trapping setbacks on excepted roads or trails be
taken at the August meeting.
 The Commission let the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks plan for identifying
where trapping setbacks apply, play out in a manner which will allow all land managers
and users to have an equal voice in determining where the trapping setbacks will be
applied.
It’s “Game Time” - the Commission needs to hear from you! Now and at the August meeting.
If nothing changes, the meeting will once again be a virtual meeting where you will not have
to be in Helena or at a Regional Office, you can watch the meeting via video link and
comment via phone.
Instructions will be on the MTFWP website as the date nears – if it turns out to be an in-
person meeting, I’ll see you there.
