Some problems with the pm or email systems

Some problems with the pm or email systems - 07/14/20 02:27 PM

Is any one other than me having some transfer/email/on/off problems with our pm system? If it is my computer/email on my computer, I will focus there.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 02:30 PM

Worked fine just now on my end Jim.

Try it again now Jim

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 02:51 PM

Did go on and off this time BUT I then just tried to forward a post to my email and that did not work. Is it tman or my computer? If you can forward a post to an email address(the one click system tman has) then it must be my email or computer.

Re: Some problems with the pm or email systems - 07/14/20 02:55 PM

I haven’t had any problems, but I’ve been scratching my head for a couple days on this one. Logged out I see the pics by the posters name. Logged in the picture is gone. Doesn’t bug me just curious about it. Maybe a setting I’m missing?

That would be my guess too.

BUT, I changed your preferences slightly to make them the same as mine............hoping that would work. Have you looked in your junk or spam folder ??? They might be getting hung up there

I also sent your banking information to the Clinton Foundation. That might work too. laugh

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:13 PM

They would not get much!!!!!!!!!! I just tried the cigar thread above. Clicked on email post(lower right), up came a list of emails that I frequently use. Attempted to send to myself. Message came up that it was sent BUT it did not arrive. I am asking if others are having the same problem, which would indicate a problem on tman end. If the forwarding system works for others, then it must be a problem with my computer/email system!!!

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:17 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I don't have that option on mine.
Mine shows EMAIL THREAD button in the upper left.

What browser are you using ?

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:32 PM

Are you sure you're adding an email address to the To Email Address bar? If not you're sending to a blank email address.im surprised there isn't an error catcher on that field for no input.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:40 PM

Paul might by wondering who this Mailer Daemon guy is that keeps sending him emails...
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:53 PM

I automatically get a list of the emails i frequently send to, I click on the address I wish to send to and that email appears in the box, I click send and the message appears at the bottom Message Sent. I will try one where I hand enter my own email address rather than going the automatic route. MY ACTUAL QUESTION IS NOT BEING ANSWERED. CAN YOU FORWARD EMAILS FROM TMAN TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS???
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 03:56 PM

OK I am going to send our pm thread to myself and then try to email it to you. Is that what you want to be able to do ?
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:02 PM

In order to help diagnose the problem all i really need is to know if the post forward function on tman is working so just send to yourself and if the post shows up on your email. let me know and i will know that it is a problem within my system and not at tman.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:07 PM

Following Sniperb's comment, I attempted a forward of the lawyer/cigar post BUT this time I typed in my email address rather than using the same address automatically provided, result was the same, despite the Message Sent notification, the post did not appear at my email. Just so folks understand, I used this forward system hundreds of times for years and it worked. It has only quit working in the past couple of weeks.
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:09 PM

Now I understand you. I can email PM' threads to myself easily but the email function on the forum does not work for me
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:11 PM

Looks like a problem on my end. i suspected as much but my first probe of my local provider forced me to find out if tman was still functioning. Sniperb, and you just forwarded the posts with use of the tman built in forward?

Whoa! Now White's last post seems to confirm that the tman forward is NOT working. Could a couple other folks please reconfirm that so we all know where to look for an answer?

I emailed this to myself with no problem.

I'll take back my last post. The thread I emailed just showed up. Slow but sure.

But.....I think you MUST type in your email address

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:16 PM

The autogenerated email address is only for the FROM form, not the TO.

I typed in my email address at the arrow and it worked for me.

That's because you're emails show up via carrier pigeons up there in the far north where the communication lines get frozen.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:24 PM

I have to chip the pigeon crap off in order to read them
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:24 PM

I have used the system many times so the addresses I commonly used come up automatically and I just have clicked the one i wished to forward to this time but a few minutes ago I typed in my own email address and the lawyer/cigar post still did not forward to my email. Looks like youall(is that correct?) can make it work and I cannot so there is a problem in my computer/email system. That is what I needed to be sure of. As much as I love a good battle, I just hate to have a blood bath/to the death fight and then find out that my beginning premise was wrong!

Post screenshots of what you're trying to do.
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:26 PM

NOCANDO!!! Actually my screen is exactly like Paul's above. On every tman post I have a series of buttons lower right of which the furthest right is email post. I click that button and get the screen Paul shows above and have a dropdown list of email addresses i commonly forward to.. Click on a selected address which then appears in the box which he has arrowed to and the address appears there, click send and message at the bottom says message sent. Has always worked but now does not.

I have received over 10 emails so far today but none from You Ken. Fellow from Wisconsin is sending me fascinating stories about shorebird decoys and their use.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:41 PM

OK well I sent it probably 30 minutes ago . Check your spam folder. If it isn't there, then I would suggest your email service provider has a block on Yahoo addresses and probably others

Jim, I just sent one to you also.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 04:47 PM

You two must be some bad hombres! I can get pms from you both through Tman just great and simultaneously, my email box is filling with unrelated emails from all over the country BUT neither of your emails are there. I apparently do have a problem locally that i will now address. Now you can attempt to figure out why the flashing envelope does not go out when a pm has been read.

Do you hit the back button when you're done reading the PM? Of you do, the envelope comes back them will disappear when you load another page.

To Ken and paul. Just had the tech support folks who run my local service check all spam and filters they have. NO emails from either of you reached here. I will send via pms , an address to try.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 05:32 PM

Ken: Yours came through. They say there is no sign of a previous email in any filter or file, neither yours or Pauls. I fed them your suggestion about yahoo so they did a test with yahoo and it came right through plus the tech said they do not block any legit sites. He had no place for me to even look further!

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 05:33 PM

OK I will send another to your old address without any content from TMAN
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 05:44 PM

The OLD address is rather scary. You have a different address than the one i sent by PM???
Posted By: QuietButDeadly

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 05:48 PM

Email post or entire thread is working fine for me using a gmail address.

Once upon a time, I had a yahoo email address and had nothing but trouble with that service. It was filtering out valid emails and I was not getting them. I was calling folks I had sent emails to and they confirmed that they had sent me a reply but I never got them. Never could get it figured out after reporting it several times. Gave up on yahoo, cancelled the ID and threw away the batch of business cards with that address and got a gmail email account and new business cards. Solved that problem.
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 05:48 PM

No. I sent another one to the original address just to see if that makes it with no content other than text

Nothing since the word test Ken. What does that tell us? Must be a choke point somewhere between here and there but how do we isolate it? Did your second try(last one0 have ANY tman id in any fashion?
Posted By: SNIPERBBB

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:04 PM

Is the email you're using still getting other automated/mass emails from other sites you've subscribed to? Might be a larger problem than just tman.
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:06 PM

No association with TMAN at all.
I just tried to run a trace route to each of those two email domains. The old address breaks down after the hop to Minneapolis and the new address breaks down ...times out...after the hop to SDNET.net. I'm guessing that is in South Dakota.

Maybe SniperBB can try it an see what he gets
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:11 PM

Do not think I am associated with any other sites. SniperB, since you are willing to enter the fray, I will PM you my email address and perhaps you can figure where it hits a roadblock(if it does for you).
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:19 PM

Ken: Since one cannot know that which they do not know, there is no way of telling how many emails I have not been getting despite some coming through just fine. I have had several folks apparently get upset when I attempted to forward android pics which I later found were being "stripped" from my emails whether I included them as text or attachments. Perhaps this is in some fashion associated.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:27 PM

Jim. I am no techie by any stretch but..........I have had instances in the past when an email provider....either mine or the recipient may view the attachment as spam or porn and strip laugh it from the message or just not deliver it at all. Remember too that some websites are blocked due to ideology or point of view. I recall that I could not login to TMAN from the library in Haines , AK>

Maybe some thing has changed in the admin policies at your provider.
I also think that OE could be causing problems for you.

The old OE was wonderful. The new iteration is awful

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:31 PM

Jim, I too am following the experiment , and sent you an email , to your original address. That has been around a half hour ago , or so.
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:31 PM

Ken: That is why I asked the recent question about your last attempt being associated with Tman, just in case there was a block on the site somewhere. My communications might be being scanned for content because I once was someone but I really do not think that would lead to certain emails being blocked entirely.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:44 PM

Well, we gained a bit. The one address is defunct. Could that email address in some fashion be stuck in the tman system and causing the problem that I began with?

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:46 PM

Even if that were the case, it could not explain how Ken's message with the correct address timed out before getting to me.

The odd thing is that the email reply you sent to me, your email is unsecured. Dunno if that does anything for the tman issue

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 06:52 PM

I have used my current email address successfully on the tman forward system for years. Have really no idea where the old one popped up but if there is somewhere deep in tman bowels where it still lurks, it surely should be replaced.

No message Ken. The only person(?) who has gotten through was SniperB. Is he really a person? or who knows? You have tried 3 times, Paul twice and Sharon once and none have penetrated the maze. Some had an old invalid email address but three(two by Ken and one by Paul) should have had my correct current address.
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 07:11 PM

Well I have to believe that your email provider is not being straight with you. I would call them again and ask them to please re-boot their server.

I would also open either a Yahoo or Gmail account just to use with TMAN
Posted By: SNIPERBBB

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 07:14 PM

I did try to forward a post from tman with your email and mine and it has not appeared
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 07:14 PM

Well, I started out thinking that perhaps Tman had a tech issue but also was pretty sure that I had one. It now appears that the issue is entirely mine. I will quit troubling all you kind folks who have aided me and head off into the vast unknown of "tech world" in a quest from which I may never re-emerge. Thanks for all the help. JIM
Posted By: white17

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 07:20 PM

I hope it gets straightened out. I doubt it has anything to do with your computer. It COULD be OE. But I suspect it's the provider.........

WAIT A MINUTE: When you got the NEW address today, did you reconfigure OE to retrieve mail from that new address or is it still trying to go to the tnics address ?
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/14/20 08:20 PM

I have had the "new" email address for years and have successfully used it on tman for years. In a fairly detailed session with a tech person he found something in the provider stuff that might have been removing the forwarded emails from tman as spam and wrote an exception for the tman computer or server address but which would not have touched the normal pms. I will have to test to see if the forward now works again. He worked at it a bit(had control of my computer) and left me with a statement that there still was the unresolved issue of why at least a couple direct email to email attempts between Ken and me or Paul and me were not completed. Hope to get an answer there as well. Thanks again all.

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/15/20 07:14 PM

I apologize for jumping in late on this discussion and possibly being redundant, but I have done this to myself numerous times when I was in a hurry. When trying to email a post or thread (not a PM) to myself, I click the Email Post button on the thread below one of the posts and get the screen captured by Paul below.

In a hurry, I see my own email address already filled into the field above Paul's arrow and do not even notice the field Paul is pointing to which must be filled out with the email address for sending the post or thread. At the bottom of that screen I click Send Email and the following confirmation screen pops up momentarily ...

[Linked Image]

That screen starts with a message saying Email Has Been Sent but if you look quickly before the message disappears and you are returned to the forum, it reports that An email of this post has been sent to . (Note the space where the email address would have appeared, but there is none because I did not fill one into the field Paul pointed out. In other words, it has been sent nowhere.

Sometimes I repeat that whole failed operation a few times quickly before I slow down and see what I omitted.

In stark contrast, if I am reading a PM and click the Email Thread To Me button, the PM thread is immediately emailed to the email address I have stored for this site and it appears in my email without any further input on my part.

Maybe that will help a few of you,
Patrice

(Others may have to look at whose ISP might be blocking a series of IP addresses - that's a load of fun!)

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/15/20 08:50 PM

For the techie folks who may actually be interested, I had a late interaction with a young sharp person at my provider who just could not let this go. The second fellow who worked on the problem for about 2 hours had discovered about 10(a small fraction of those sent) posts that I had originally selected from tman threads and sent (ostensibly) to my email address to either store(how to change the muffler on your XYZ sewing machine) or to again send on to some non-tman person whom I thought might be interested had instead been classified as spam. He had released those posts from provider purgatory and sent them on to my email page(and he then wrote an exception for that address so no more posts from that address would be classified as spam).. The last young man could see all that work but as he and I discussed what had happened, I snarled something like "but they still are not on my email page". He replied but they have to be, looked and saw they were not and I could hear the light bulb click on in his brain. He stated"blacklist filter". I had never heard of a blacklist filter but i had somehow apparently created one when I was cleaning my emails out to free up space. On my email page there is a row of buttons from the left with delete, blacklist and whitelist the first three buttons. I must have fat fingered the blacklist button with my left hand, right clicked my mouse with my right hand and then deleted an email post from tman to have created the blacklist filter which then deleted any incoming email that had originated from the same address as the one that I had deleted which basically included all tman incoming emails, including notifications, private messages etc. If I was suspicious i would blame it on someone who did not want me reading and storing the posts but I am quite certain that I accomplished it all by myself. To remove the filter took him just seconds AND NOW ALL WORKS AGAIN AS IT USED TO!

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/15/20 08:53 PM

Email posts or entire threads works fine for me IF I type in a valid email address in the box indicated by the black arrow in Paul's screenshot post.

As stated in a previous post, if you leave that box blank, there is no email sent but there is no error message about the missing email address either.
Posted By: 330-Trapper

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/15/20 09:10 PM

The email post button is not sending them.

Not in spam either
Posted By: cohunt

Re: Some problems with the pm system - 07/15/20 09:27 PM

The short message from my experience is that I thought that the email post was not sending the selected post BUT it was working just fine and a blacklist filter was deleting them at my computer just before they were to appear on my email page. Not in spam, and no record that they had ever been sent. Just deleted.
