Gonna be a good deer season

I know it's hotter than hates right now but I'm pretty much thinking about deer season all year with the exception of the two months I'm trapping. Got a few cams out here in East Tennessee and have two cell cams out in Ohio at our little place. Been getting some nice buck pics. Anyone else running any cameras yet?

Right on!! Deer season is something I look forward to as well. I’ve got ten cameras out now scouting for the big one.

Nice pictures RM. I am seeing some good deer here the last couple of weeks. I had a 350 and a 340 class bull elk trot across the road the other morning. It will get the blood pumping!

Never had the opportunity to chase elk but I'm sure it's a rush. Do you ever run trail camera for elk MT bowhunter?

Nice deer. Gets the blood pumping. Running cameras is kinda like trapping always exciting to see what you caught. The last two deer I have taken, never had a picture of either one after 8 weeks. Cameras extend the season for me, and it's really cool to see all the other creatures running the trails.

I would do it in a heartbeat! Good luck hunting this year! I still haven't got my cameras out yet. The dang poison ivy is everywhere and I get it really bad! Hoping to get some cameras out soon!

Your guys’ poison ivy is weak down there. Ours survive the winter!

You have some great bucks

I don't run trail cams. I do shoot a lot of video. We typically do not have elk until early fall but this year is extremely dry so they are coming down out of the high county early.
Elk is some darn fine table fare. I like to see the big bulls and film them but I try to shoot a spike or a rag horn. I am pretty much a meat hunter. If I do shoot a bigger bull it becomes sausage.

Last year I had West Nile and thumped the first elk that came by the first day I was well enough to hunt. Sausage Bull!

I found about 3-4 mature persimmon trees in some very thick cover and stuck a camera in there. I can tell you where deer spend their midday, lol. The bucks will come in right at dawn then the does and fawns stick around most of the morning and well into the afternoon. Hardly any night time activity. What’s funny is I jumped deer going in and in less than 5 minutes after placing the camera I was getting pics of deer.

Here on the farm, the acorns seem pretty patchy. In the past several years, there has been really good to bumper crops. This should have the deer moving more this season looking for food, using green fields, and food plots more. When acorns are everywhere the deer don't need to move.
