Show off your trade/craft - 07/25/20 05:21 PM
Me thinks a more pleasant thread is on order. So gents, and especially tradesmen, show us your craftsmanship. Show us your good looking work, and what you do in your trade. Surely Im not the only one who appreciates mechanical beauty. I'll start.
Traffic department vehicle finished up this morning (I promise all lights work, just can't get them all in one picture)....
Detectives car built this week, along with it's wiring....

I have made ulu since around 2003. I use antique handsaw blades from the late 1800's as it is some of the best high carbon steel ever made. I cut and grind them cold to not mess up the temper. I use a variety of antler, preferring Moose or Caribou, and bone for the handles and I make them to be used but most wind up on display on a shelf someplace. I have sold a ton of them up in Alaska, the lower 48, and have some in Europe.
I have not made any for a couple of years due to health issues but will begetting back at it shortly.

Not my car of course , 2013 McLaren MP4-12C , hood latch broken. Good now. Owner super impressed with my skills and very happy not to have it repaired by dealership and their crazy costs.

I don't know or want to know. I repaired it instead of replacing it.
Owner stated most parts are McLaren only , dealership prices...
Owner also stated battery was special and maybe Lithium , $3k for dealer replacement.

You've seen pictures of them for years, but I make duck, goose and mostly turkey calls. Tman has been a great connection to hunting and folks who like good stuff. I also love to fix other people's chainsaws and build furniture.
Other than that I'm decent at shoveling horse crap and cutting firewood, but I'm a good cook.

Lol....good wisecrack......
I asked the owner to open the cover for the engine to get a better look , however there is only a small panel about 18" X 18" directly above the engine made out of Lexan and carbon fiber. Can't see much , most maintenance is done from below. I really wanted to see the 616hp , twin turbo , flat plane crankshaft piece of automotive art that resides there , but alas , twas for naught.
Cool doors on the car however.

The problem is when UPS intercepts it at the border and demands their ransom to take it any further.
Posted By: lee steinmeyer
Re: Show off your trade/craft - 08/04/20 01:03 PM
The short answer is yes, but like Critter done said, the shipping just sucks. Almost as much as the knife. I don't know how anyone can ship internationally. If you come to a national up on the northern teir of states, check witth me, or know some one this side of the boarder that you can pick it up from, that I can ship to. Those are the only sensible alturnatives!

I've worn a few different hats over the years , I've had a water well service rig and worked on or replaced submersible pumps, pipe, cylinders or working barrels under a windmill or pumpjacks whatever it takes to make water work for people.
I've also been a stagehand and have built stages for rock and country concerts as well as symphonies and opera's as well as a few of our presidents where I can't take pictures because of copyright infringement laws and union rules.
I also work as a utility / camera op for CBS sports during the Billings PBR event each year and some rodeos across Montana.
Then there's always never a dull moment I make snares and snare supports as well .

That’s a nuclear fuel assembly being removed from the reactor core. They glow blue. This is something the Simpsons got wrong.
Every one of those squares you can see at the bottom of that vessel is a fuel assembly composed of a pile of “rods” that contain the actual fuel pellets. Each fuel pellet is about half the size of your pinky and (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) near equivalent to a rail car of coal. Pretty amazing this technology is over 60 years old....if only we would embrace it.

I don't have any photos for the limited skillsets I have. Over 37 years of teaching and consulting I had the pleasure to instruct, teach and consult over 800 students with over 500 of those becoming engaged in running their own farm or ag business. It was a great experience to watch these families grow and succeed. I watched many become successful but also aided some in divesting their businesses when things went south. It was gratifying to be invited into homes, to weddings, and yes for some their auctions as they are now retiring. I still trap on many of those farms, some it is now the 3rd generation.

Paul that blasting is fun huh,
I do miss the sound of blasting rounds underground.
And power of the air from the blast. The smell of anfo. Only did one day of surface blast.

That was a detonation in support of an open house event at an Air Force Base. I don't remember which one, because there were so many. It's basically an explosion from a simulated bomb dropped by an aircraft as it flew over. I always got a kick out of the reaction of the accompanying pilot we had with us on the ground to give us a heads-up on the approaching aircraft. During the pre-event briefing, I'd always tell them that we ought to put a 25 pound keg of nails on the C-4 to give the aircraft a real-life experience. Oddly, they never thought it was a good idea - lol.

Water pump job on a Ford explorer 3.7l.....
This is a very useful skill indeed. We have a guy and I'd pay whatever it would take to keep him. Guys like you can pretty well install and/or repair anything given the time and the tools.
