Depends on where the hospital/lab is contracted to send them to.

When our hospital first started testing they were sending them to California. The wait was about 10-14 days to get the results back.

Now they get sent to a lab in Pittsburgh (about 120 miles away) It takes about 3-5 business days now.

There are rapid tests that do on healthcare workers that they can get back in less than a day.

Well you have quick tests that aren't exactly accurate and those can be done while your there. Last update from LabCorp was 5-7 day turnaround because volume of testing is so high they are backlogged.

Some of the major health care providers set up their own lab and do their own testing so they can control their turn around time. I have had 2 minor surgical procedures over a period of 2 weeks. I was tested for the virus (not for anitbodies) a couple days prior to each procedure and the results were back in less than 24 hours. The tests were scheduled, administered and processed in house by my health care provider.

I think the pre-op years re mostly in house. The diagnostic tests are being sent offm our in-house kits are getting lower. We aren't participating in the year everybody that wants it campaign.

Its hard for me to believe that 14,000 positives showed up in one 24 hour period in one state. That might have been Florida.

That's 9.7 people every minute in 24 hours. According to the media, we should all have contacted the disease and died.

I give platelets monthly, I have for 20 years. I had open heart surgery 2013 and received a piece of bovine pericardium to replace my aortic heart valve that was defective. I sent a letter to the blood center and had a letter from the surgeon who did the surgery and I am reinstated to give blood products again. I did not for 1 year after the surgery and also for 4 months after my hip surgery. So if one is interested in seeing if you can give again after some major issues you can try and see where that leads.
