I joined at 13 yrs old when I needed to get some used traps. This community has fueled my passion/lifestyle for the outdoors that I couldn’t get from TV or a magazine at that age. I know my parents appreciated this unspoken guidance I received while growing up from this forum.

Join dates are only for this edition of Tman. Everything was lost in the crash of 2006. I’ve been here since 2002. Maybe earlier. Lots of folks have come and gone in those 18 years.
Heck - many of the folks posting now were still on diapers

The joined dates are not accurate. There were two site crashes after I joined, and we had to re-register both times, as I recall.

I've been here a while, I remember you Nick, how have you been doing? Do the crops look good?
We havent had a measurable rain in a month, but with that said our crops look Okay, another 10 days of heat and no rain will make it start to go downhill fast.

Retirement is great, the time flies by, it is over 10 years now and it seems like yesterday. It is dry in my area too, there is a corn field in my back yard and surprisingly it really looks good yet. But like you said, if we soon don't get rain it will go down hill fast. If they do play football this season the Hawkeyes will be coming to PA this fall. Should be a good game.

I went through a couple crashes.
Was a chat mod for awhile.
That one chat room we had was a fun one.
I remember kicking the one kid out thinking he could come right back in. Here they had changed the settings and it was a half hour ban. To say he wasn't happy would be an understatement. He even complained on the main forum about it. I think it was wolfer that would pre-emptively kick him as soon as he showed up at night. It kind of became a game for them both. The kid would change names and wolfer would have his ip addy written down and would get him. Poor kid couldn't catch a break.
I haven't heard hide nor hair from the likes of Geezerman, Scottie the Boy, DJ whatever his name was, or the lady foxtrapperwoman??

That's it, I was trying to remember the names of the posting cohorts at the time. I recall too, some pretty good numbers and catch pics. Better times then for trapping posts, lots of non sense now but maybe that'll improve in the fall, It always does. I was around then but also took a long break for a couple years, some as a sentence, some personal choice. Some might recall another name from back around that time, "Going out with my boots on". Wonder who remembers her as such?

Akona is alive and well. He's taken up an interest in old Indian coins, and co-authored a book on the subject for collectors. But I don't know if he's ever been the same, since Paul threw him out of the forum. lol
Thinking of Akona makes me remember the kids' haiku contest I sponsored. Akona was one of three judges, Miz (Hal's better half) and I were the others. I wonder whatever happened to the three kids who won the prizes? I hope they're still trapping.
Maybe it's time for a new kids' haiku contest. What do you think, Paul?

Think I was on here in the nineties, can't remember too good anymore.
Lots of the best guys either quit, and or quite a few died off. Some really top notch trappers on here in the early years.
One nationally known guy I asked if he was coming on here early on made the remark, nah he said ninety nine questions about which lure to use, when that's not the secret. Twenty some years later not much different it seems.
Been really grateful for what I have learned here, and for the friends I have made. It's been a really good time, and very fortunate time in a lot of ways.

I joined in 2004, and my new join date is from right after the crash. Remember some of the good stuff with Charles, Andy and coonhangman (change back nick!). LT getting creepy and having ghost accounts, a bunch of women showing up, Hup telling them off, the old arguments with IdAHoCAtMaN. Can’t believe I actually live in ID now and he and I aren’t best friends. It has been interesting to see the ebbs and flows of traffic and content on here as it correlates with the fur market, the economy and such. At times it was a real hotbed of amazing trapping stories and info. Have made a few friends and stay in occasional contact with some. MHoward was a cool guy, Blueridgetrapper, then there’s old marbleyes and furtaker, butch from up in backus MN, some you just don’t hear from anymore. It’s been a long time.

I don't know if the crashes wiped out all the original data and signing. I am approaching 20 years from my original joining on the forum. The political posting has been around forever, probably a higher percentage today of all posts then before. Now one has to look harder for trapping related posts, but then one has many more they can just skip over too.

In the old days the Trapper Talk page was for everything including trapping topics, and there were more trapping topics on the Trapper Talk forum then because we didn't have a strictly trapping forum. You don't have to search hard to find trapping topics there.

Some of the missing have gone to either Greybeards or Lynxlair or coyotesrus,
I was active Greybeard Outdoors twenty-plus years ago. Same site?
yes, and the beauty of Greybeards is the 75 sub forums......like Mossberg firearms or Remington or Black Powder or Gardening or Frugal Living or S&W or Gunsmithing or TRAPPING or Reloading or Rimfires, etc, etc.

Seen a lot of people come and go over the last 20 years here. Lost some pretty good people too, Lewis Quarles, Hawkeye, Jonathon, etc. Does anyone know what ever happened to Neil from North Carolina. He was one of the originals as well.
If its the Neil I'm thinking of, he comes to our convention every few yrs with his now full grown son. This Neil used to play guitar some at shows too.

Funnest video was the guy trapping coyotes maybe (andy?) and as he approached the set and filming that coyote it popped the trap and took off...Priceless was his reaction...Anyone else remember that vid???

Re: Old School Trapperman - 07/29/20 11:11 PM
funny to me how this came up today.
Earlier today I was thinking of some of stuff that has went on at this place. Lots and lots of great info through all the years. Some great back and forths between members. And always some stuff that would make anyone laugh.
My favorite of all time was the years that "MaCat" and Jtrap along with his "brother" would have at it. Was that charlesks? Ole Belin would toss his hat in the ring from time to time just to keep things going. Was it a cat she killed? And tried to blame one her "sons" for it? Oh and slim always had a few things to say about whatever they were carrin on about. The few weeks following the NTA's was a blast to read too. Stories galore.
I recall always wanting to get on here just to see and follow those threads.
If I recall right Bob the doc and wileycoyote used to have some real shoutin matches too. Both made sense, neither ever gaining the upper hand.
I have been here since it began. # 35 I believe. Don't post alot anymore, but still check in most everyday just to sorta keep up with everybody.

I just remembered another one that left an impression on me when I started here, the name Big Possum refreshed my memory. I think his handle was Possum skinner and his nickname got whittled down to P skinny as I recall. Got a lot of good trapping advice from him but I think he may have departed in frustration? anyone recall? Might have been LE?

I trapped last fall with her significant other Jerry. He came into Nebraska. Was a pretty good time. Catherine called him daily and updated him as we hit the line. I think most of the trip she was battling some goats that had free range of the place...lol. She still posts here from time to time but works night shift.

It says 2006 but I.m sure it was 2001. Member #18. I think we donated something to Cindy Steff from Arizona for some organization to get our number. Used to tell Bob to settle down because my 12 year old read the forum.

I joined in 2008 at the ripe old age of 14. I don't post much but have lurked nearly every day since. The content has really fallen off since the fur market took a nose dive but I still enjoy reading everyone's opinions and adventures. Some names that stand out for posting good trapline adventures and advice are Nick C., Andy S, Michael O'Brien, Mike Kelly, CharlesKs, Lltrapper, 1187 Shooter, Goldy, P Skinny, Dave Plueger, Hupurest, Boone Liane, blackhammer and many more.

I was referring to his name being banned. It was an anti NTA issue that caused his physical ban. It's always been my policy that trapping organizations are not to be ridiculed.

Joined I believe in 2008 around the time of the NTA in Lima, Ohio where I met a lot of Trapperman members. Guys like P Skinny, Blueridge trapper, zagman,Phil Brown,Freak and a lot more. A bunch of good dudes. I helped Jim Blakely at his pocket popper booth at that convention. Went to the Trapperman feed. Been checking the forum just about daily since I suppose. Sucks our markets are so bad that interest is lower than I’ve seen it.

Bob had his own taste of a slander lawsuit threat by NTA's former consultant. I don't think anything ever came of it.

Spent many hours on the old chat with them and many others.

Re: Old School Trapperman - 07/31/20 04:06 AM
reading some of these posts I am afraid I miscalled a few.. LOL It was wilyE I was thinking of instead of wilycoyote.
My memory sucks now a days. Many of those mentioned I had forgotten about.
Either way, there has been a lot of memories for me from this place. Most good, some sad.
Ole hawkeye is one I really miss. He and I talked quite a bit on another forum and I learned a lot from him.
I was hoping to some day meet and hunt yotes with the fella from Oklahoma. Boone ????? I have no idea what ever happened to him. I hope he is well.
There was another also. Big time yote hunter. Not sure where he was from. I believe he posted most days from Irag. I asked him one time via PM about meeting up and he said sure, "just let me get back home from here first" Sadly I can't recall his name either.
