Thermometer do you have one? - 08/02/20 02:44 AM

Something I herd the other day got me thinking what is the level of preparation of at home medical supplies and knowledge.

a simple yes or no will suffice

1. do you have a medical Thermometer ?

2. do you have fever reducing drugs , Ibuprofen , Tylenol , acetaminophen?

3. do you have bandages , gauze and other first aid supplies to dress wounds?

4. do you have quick clot & tourniquets?

5. do you carry a first aid kit in your truck/car ?

6. have you taken a class or course on first aid? boy scouts , army , any type of class.

7 Have you taken a CPR/CCR/AED class or certification? if you took CPR and remember it from before CCR and AED were a thing say yes.

Yes to all except 4. First and d kit in the truck could definitely be better, it's just simple stuff like Band-Aids. I should carry stuff more suited to traumatic injuries.

We-Sa good to go you need to be careful with the quick clot it burns the skin and you will need medical attention immediately. However it can save your life. Just got to know the limitations on some of this stuff

you do need to know when to use it or not.

if you need to use it , your next stop was already going to be the ER most likely via Ambulance. I have it in the form a quick clot sponge a little easier to administer than the powder.

Re: Thermometer do you have one? - 08/02/20 03:26 AM

Yes to the first 3.

No quick clot or tourniquet kids but stuff that could be used for a tourniquet.

5) No but I should.

6 and 7) No, but my husband's done both. I have read a lot about first aid and doctored plenty of dogs so feel somewhat comfortable about that. I really should take a CPR class though.

Yes Sir analog all the way. Also there is a product called bite and sting kit. Used it after being bit bit by a red hornet I could see the venom being pulled out of my skin. It is called Bite and Sting Kit. I always get puffed up when stung by hornets. With this kit I'm back to work within minutes.

I keep a few things at the house and in the truck I keep that stuff in cooler b/c it gets so hot down here.

As far as medical know how, I've sewn up a few prolapses so yeah basically I could stop a bleed.

Yes. I also make sure we always have butterfly bandages for those ugly cuts that are probably going to wind up being stitched.

No to #4. Red Cross has an online CPR/AED certification with test and certificate. Grandson took it today to complete the last requirement for his First Aid merit badge. Cost is $35.

Does the quick clot have to be for human use -- we have it around for the sheep at sheering time -- everything else - yep I think wer'e ok

No to 4 and 6. Yes to the rest. I ALWAYS have an Epi-pen. A bee sting or allergic reaction could choke me and a lot of other people like me out in minutes. Take care. Nice safety thread

Yes to all. Was an EMT for 21 years when I was working in the mines. We were required to have an EMT underground at all times, as the working section was sometimes an hour travel from the outside.
