You aren't old until all the new hires literally could be your grandchildren or great grandchildren.

That is a little early. If it gets to the point that they could be your grand child, then it is time to hang it up.

Looks like Nittany is faster on the trigger than me today. laugh

I've watched it go from new hires being the same age as my sons...thats when i first noticed it.

To now...all new hires were not even born when I was hired....

What sticks out in my mind from when I was working is how fast it seems you go from being the youngest on shift to being the oldest. The years slide by very quickly.

I worked with a young guy that was about half my age for a few years He got to calling me Old Man and than would say you are older than my Dad .So one day I said how about we have a foot race You pick the place and distance and we run I than said I can not lose He said back that was getting pretty arrogant in light of the fact I am much older than he was . I said yea but if I lose I am supposed to lose remember I am an old man But if I win what are you gonna say than . was not so inclined to take me up on my offer and told me he would have to think about it and get back to me on the race idea .I ask a few days later and he decide d to pass on the race . So if you get grief from someone challenge them to some thing they may not be too good at .That will at least get them thinking you just might be young enough to beat then as some things

I enjoy the young men and women I work with. Take this time in your life to listen to them. Lead by example. You would be surprised at the results you get. We where all young. Most of them don’t have what we had. Parents. A mom and a dad. That is the plain truth.

I'm not near retirement, but I am old. One of the youngsters I work with was in a Lamaze class with me years ago. However, he was still in the womb.

Yeah work with alot of young men, all good guys. Some start out with a chip on their shoulder but in my line of work they get humbled pretty quick.
Can't say some of the sayings i have to them on here, but the one that gets them thinking is" remember you are the softest thing down here." Or remind them of the miners memorial they walk by every day.
