Firecrackers gone bad......

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/04/20 06:15 PM

that looks like a munitions supply initial explosion then raging fire then KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

the guy in the video looked to be 1/2 mile away he was up high so maybe a bit further you could see the pressure wave just shredding a building about 2 blocks away before he is knocked over and the glass railing shattered and the debris start falling

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/04/20 06:36 PM

That was a lot more than a few firecrackers going off.

Good assessment, imo. Which raises the question why a munitions dump in an urban area?

The explosives were likely there to make Israel hesitant to target them. It looks like it may have not worked.

Just read that occured in a port area. Military supplies being off loaded?

Something like the Halifax or Black Tom explosions during WW1?

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/04/20 07:43 PM

Looking closely at a couple of different videos there is definitely an underground component to the blast and shock wave! This was no fireworks storage area and it will be interesting to hear the who, what and where when the debris both big and small is sorted out.

The article I read said Trump thinks it was a bomb and Lebanese officials think it may have been caused by confiscated sodium nitrate stored at the port.
Posted By: star flakes

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/05/20 01:27 AM

President Trump stated it was some kind of bomb. A bomb is something someone made and they intended to use. This has a history of Iranian explosives, provided to proxies, and ending up in Marine Barracks. Someone used the fireworks cache to detonate this shipload of high explosives.
:Logic dictates this was Iran building a retaliation bomb for what has been taking place in Iran. If this had reached the intended target, it would have been this mushroom cloud in Tel Aviv, the Golan, or an American port city. Just as on 9 11, the United States would be either backing the Jews or moving to another trillion dollar war, and Iran will be the target.

China has vital oil interests in Iran and Russia has vital military presence. We are all in a game of consequences, and the stakes raise with each round of bets.

The videos are crazy. I wasn't buying the fireworks narrative this morning. Just read it was 6 tons of ammonium nitrate that exploded. It had been stored there for 6 years too

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/05/20 11:11 AM

The story on OAN this morning is that 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate had been stored for six years at a port warehouse. What caused the initial fire is unknown but that s what detonated the ammonium nitrate.

12 thousand pounds of 46-0-0 would make a boom, but not like that. That was way more...

i heard 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate. That's over six million pounds. That would make a bigger boom than just twelve thousand pounds.

Yup, need this morning says 2750 tons. The before and after is crazy.

100 dead, 4000 injured, many vaporized, 300,000 left homeless. Broke windows 25 miles away.
One story said the AN had turned hard from the moisture and they were dynamiting it to break it apart. Some stories you just can't believe.

Well it worked didn't it. Its not in the warehouse anymore. Mission accomplished I would say. .... I also heard that the ISS was overtaken by a small Libyan flagged fishing vessel

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 03:29 AM

Ammonium nitrate is one of the two parts needed for a binary explosive. By itself, it is safe to store. Someone added the second part of the binary explosive for it to all blow up like that. It also requires a significant detonator to light it off.

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 07:02 AM

I suspect someone was adding 10% aluminum powder to a truck loads worth of amonium nitrate, after adding diesel, to make an ampho truck bomb, they could transport, that could easily be ignited, when it was ignited causing the first blast, that ignited the second blast of the huge stock pile of amonium nitrate.

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 09:49 AM

It has been laying in that same warehouse for over 6 years now. Who knows what all had contaminated it in that time. Think of all the other stuff that had be stored near it. Leaking drums of anything, coal, grain or anything else flammable. Just the condensation on the bottom side of the roof would for rust that would drop on top of it add in some grain dust that was made airborne by one of the smaller explosions. Lot of possibilities and doubt we will ever know.

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 10:14 AM

No way fertilizer did that. Ammonium nitrate fertilizer is a different animal than blasting grade ammonium nitrate. Most if not all fertilizer is not very pure. It is also not dust. IF it was pure enough it would need to be ball milled and then have a fuel added. I dont know what happened there but it wasn't a fertilizer accident

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 11:57 AM

we all are entitled to draw our own conclusions......either way......it wasn't an accident

What we used in the mine was granular.

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 12:19 PM

Has anyone ever read on the Oppau explosion? Not saying there wasn't other factors at play but this isn't the first time this stuff has blown up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oppau_explosion

Posted By: danny clifton

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 04:34 PM

The granular stuff has diesel added to it for a fuel. The liquid soaks right in. It is also blasting grade not fertilizer. I guess somebody could have mixed a liquid fuel into it but it still wasn’t blasting grade oxidizer if it was fertilizer

Re: Small explosion in Beirut - 08/06/20 06:07 PM

The Oklahoma bombing was fertilizer and diesel fuel. At one point the ignorant news media gave the proportion of the mix. eek I think that part of the report was later removed.

The proportions are common knowledge. Fortunately most people don't want to make bombs.

Gasoline can do tremendous damage and is easier to get and use.

Mc veigh tried fertilizer and couldnt get it to pop. He stole bags of blasting agent from a quarry

Could be, Danny. The 'Media' said fertilizer, but then they never have been reliable. Go figure. sick
