A lot of hatcheries give an extra chicken with your order but you may have to wait til it is grown to know what it is. Also it is probably a male that is how they get rid of the males.

You will put as much feed in it as the rest of the chicks. It will be a third the size, tough and bony. If you want a rooster, keep it, if not, cull it now.

I'm going to order my fall cornish to be delivered in October. It's still in the 80's here until late October. It's just too hot here to deal with them any earlier than that. I order from some folks in state and shipping would still be brutal in this heat.

Almost always the extras are roosters, often added to small orders to help the birds stay warm, but I had eight roosters extra in an hundred pullet order.

I get my chicks from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries. If I order pullets the extras are always pullets of the same breed.
