He's not on property I can hunt. He is in Ga, though, but about 2.5 hours north of me.

Re: How many inches? - 08/12/20 07:01 PM

He is a magnificent buck !!! BUT he is in velvet and the massive racks you look at then suddenly become TONS smaller after they shed .. With that said he will still be somewhere from 180 to 200. Post pic after the velvet is gone. Oh that's right when velvet leaves the bucks leave LOL!!!!

Re: How many inches? - 08/12/20 07:02 PM

Is this deer in Fla ? if SO change my guess to 160. They have small bodies down there so it makes the racks look tons bigger ...................... For size comparison is that a 6 by 6 post or 4 by 4 he is standing beside.

About didn’t open this one up. A lot of things ran through my head but curiosity got the best of me. Thank goodness it was a buck. I’d say 180’s great buck!!!!

Re: How many inches? - 08/13/20 03:32 AM

What does an average 3-4 year old central Georgia buck weigh? I need a body size reference to go off of.
The rack is too narrow and the main beams are on the short side to make big numbers. Once that velvet comes off, the rack is going to look spindly.
Having said all of that negativity, I would knock down my best friend and his hot wife who is secretly sweet on me so that I could get off the first shot at it.
His wife is really hot, and her being sweet on me isn't that much of a secret.
I'm saying it is a nice buck.

Re: How many inches? - 08/13/20 03:48 AM

If he's still young, i'd give him another year. Seems like management program is working. The deer in the feeder isn't no slouch either.

Now around my parts, you better shoot first, won't see him again. I average a nice buck about every 3-4 years around where i hunt, they have to go through several leases before getting to me. Every now and then, one slips through to my hunting area. Sarge

.

The location is along the Flint River on the northern end of several counties that regularly produce 3 year old bucks that live weight over 200 lbs. My guess is he is at least 200. He has the squared off deep body and blocky-ness of a 4 year old.

I'd say his brow tines are at least 9". If so, that would make his inside spread, at its widest, about 15" or 16". Tine length and number of tines are gonna run his total gross way up.

Spindly tines count just as much as heavy ones. I wish there was a system that gave some credit for tine mass.

Main beam length will help a score but mass and inside spread will only do so much. Without tine length though its hard to get a decent score.

Speaking of tine length, man I love those brow tines. Would love to take a buck with long brows someday.
