What made these

Anybody know what would've dug all these holes? The bigger one looks like it could've been a small groundhog but I never seen all the small ones so close together before. It's on the edge of the yard and cornfield and there are small trails into the corn.

They are about the size of a golfball. I didn't see ants anywhere and no bees came out when I was poking around with a stick, normally you know in a hurry if there's bees home.

Also some go straight down a good foot or so and there is about a dozen of them in a 6'-8' area. Something is also knocking over or chewing the outer row of corn down and eating the small ears. Seen some ears near holes.

Rats. Get you a big drum of water, couple buddies with shotguns and fill the holes with water and shoot whatever comes out.

Or ground squirrels. Really looks more like rats to me. If you get a big infestation, they can be hard to get rid of!

These are about 100 yds from the house, I'll try to get rid of them before they migrate over and attempt to infiltrate.

Set up a trail cam.

My bet is rats based on the specific description of the corn damage.

put a #1 coil or long spring in front of the hole and cover it with a rag . Stake it or wire to something. If rats you will know in the morning. BUT I vote skunks. Rats make all their holes the same size 99 % of the time.

Corn damage is either coon or groundhogs, they typically climb the stalks and break them. The holes are probably chipmunks. Voles are usually in grassy areas, that's why I think chipmunks.
