Shortages. - 08/14/20 05:47 PM
I an tired of not being able to buy previously common items. Ammunition, rubbing alcohol, full sized Bounty Paper Towels, vinegar, canning supplies and a multitude of other items are no longer available. I went to a Do It Best Hardware Store, Kroger, Tractor Supply and Walmart on Wednesday to get canning supplies with little success. Thursday, I went to the Country General Store, another Tractor Supply Company, another Kroger and another Walmart, with a little better success, but still could not get everything I wanted.
Why can't America get it together again?
Keith
I stopped by a local outdoors store today to pick up something I needed this weekend. It opened at 9:00 a.m. At 8:50 a.m. there was a line of people 40 deep because of a rumor that a small shipment of 9mm and 5.56 arrived. I guess the rumor was true but it was indeed a very small shipment.

Can't find fishing gear, even at Walmart. Can't hardly find any kind of fencing at local stores. Did find some .223 ammo at rural King the other day. Two 300rd boxes of Aquila fmj. They did have a few boxes of I think 70gr btsp but I left those as my gun is a otr 1:7 twist so wouldn't do much good for practice.
I agree been trying for lids and mason jars for a few weeks with little to no luck.

ten zillion unemployed by covid are becoming overnight preppers (after the fact) Three of my middle aged children and their spouses started keeping chickens,
Creeks are like going to the convention with brand new feed themselves anglers.
Even if you find something you can't buy it with cash, so why look?

Same situation here. Empty sections in stores. Canning especially. Place orders on-line, and get e-mails that the products are on back-order. A couple said that it’d be 5-6 weeks before they “might” get the items.

Have to get with the times. No one around here shops at stores anymore unless that can't find it on Amazon

Just went and checked my 'stash'. I'm good to go.
Not a hoarder, just CHEAP.
I hit 'close out sales' and buy in bulk when I can. Canning supplies, ammunition, and other 'durable' consumables are never going to be as cheap or plentiful again.

Aint that the truth. Still don't have one ... I can see some jerky in my future.
After our flood this spring it took me three months to find two freezers I had to replace. Almost getting back to normal. Supply side issues on trapping supplies starting to see more back orders when I approve po's

Same here. Couple places told me last week that they hadn’t received any new stock in a month.

I’m not seeing a shortage locally. I had 60 dozen new Ball regular mouth lids/bands....tried selling them for $3 a dozen. Ended up getting $2.50 or $2 a dozen. Selling on a couple big Facebook sites and a local flea market.
Dollar Generals still have jars-lids-bands here.

Here, lids were $3.99/dz back in March. A little higher in a few stores.

Went to Menards to buy some stair riser lumber couldn't find any 2X10s or 2x8s. I also planed on replacing some of my deck boards and they didn't have any 10 footers.
As long as there ain't a shortage of Backbreaker and Missouri Gold I should be fine.

Yup Beav....no pressure treated 2x8x8 at the Home Depot here either....or 10 footers. Have to put something on the stairs......

I had to call around for treated lumber to finish up my high tunnel last week. When I did find it at two different places the #1 from one looked worse than the #2 from the other. I don't even want to talk about the price.
We alway seem to have way to many canning jars in the spring and run short about now. My wife has been having a hard time locating more unless they ar 3x the normal price.

Get used to it.
It's our new Socialist economy.
I'm ready for it!!! My mommie taught me, "If you can't beat 'um join 'um"
I'll be hoarding all the good stuff, and selling it. I intend to become one rich Socialist.
I work at Lowe's and we're low on lumber. Gardening tools are non-existent. Rocks and pavers are few and far between. From talking with vendors, it's due to the factories that produce those things being shut down.

I heard Menards is $11/plank cheaper than the local yard on pressure treated lumber.

Lowe's was 9$ cheaper I discovered AFTER I bought a bunch from the local yard. But I was in there the week before and they were out.
I wont shop at Menards after parking in the back of the full lot and getting to the door and seeing a sign that said no one under 16 was allowed in the store. I had my 7 and 9 year old with me. No never shop there again
They don't want my money.

I got to thinking I might need an extra hot spot. I ain't never paid over $50 for one. I started looking on ebay and amazon and they was sky high. Finally a guy listed 38 for mid $60's and I was the third person to buy one and they was all gone in 6 hrs. Then on the news thay was talking to teachers in Saint Louis about going back to school and they said they bought 12,000 hot spots. So there ya go.

In the late 80s American companies started going over seas for cheap labor. By the 90s we where told we where turning into a service country. Manufacturing left. Cheap labor. Cheap taxs. Now when we need the stuff we are paying the price. Wait till fall starts and the Covid-19 picks up again. My advice. STOCK UP now!!!!!!!
