Nope, it’s a scam, according to our vet.
When ours get bit by copperheads the area swells a bunch and that’s it.
They conserve their venom injections for Prey. It takes days for it to regenerate and they know it.
We and pets only get a few drops of venom from impact.
However, very young snakes do not know and are historically the ones we get larger venom doses from.
This is also taught in Biology and Herpetology classes.
My vet today, who I love, said that he really didn't understand how they could work, but that all the research and evidence show that they do. I've had several dogs bit since they moved here and all recovered without a vet, but I also know of people that lose hunting dogs to snakes every summer so.....
I get my dogs vaccinated every year. I’ve got small terriers that are under 40lbs. My jagd terrier is just a touch over 20lbs. Two of my dogs got bit this summer on the face. They both had swelling but were 100% better within 5 hours or so.
I’m guessing since it’s a rattlesnake vaccine it won’t work well for other snakes such as copperheads
According to my vet, it does work well on all venomous snakes we have around here except for coral snakes.... including copperheads and cottonmouth. Thanks for the info on your dogs.
