I just bought one a couple weeks ago. Super easy and fantastic cooking. Ribs, chicken, 6 hams and a pastrami so far. I love mine.

Yea its a pitboss Austin XL . LOVE this thing. Real test was boneless chicken breast. Not dry at all super moist with out wrapping them in foil. Steaks , tenderloin, chicken legs, (my favorite) , everything is unreal how good they taste. Going to tackle a brisket on Friday !!!!

I have a Pitt boss as well. I’ve been using mine almost every day for a few weeks now. These are great!

Ok, give me a quick lesson on how these things work. How much pellets does it take to run a few hours?

Re: My new pellet smoker - 08/19/20 01:51 PM

I held out a long time on getting one. Thought it was a gimmick. Then after a lot of though, figured I’d try one out. Man was I wrong. I can run it all night on a hopper of pellets. The last 20 lbs bag probably lasted me over 25 or 30 hours of cook time. If you get one, you won’t regret it. You literally set the temp and walk away. No more standing there for hours babysitting the pit. I can go mow, watch tv, pretty much do anything around the house and have it cooked and done when times up. Ribs just fall apart.

I was wondering the same , do they use the same pellets as heating ?

how many pellets ?

do you have to be sure to move it inside the garage after use to keep the pellets dry?

Depends on what temp you run at. I can cook 6-10 meals on one bin (20 lbs). Burgers only take about 10 minutes once it gets to temp.It comes with a instruction book and it is pretty spot on as far as temps and time for each meat you are cooking.

I use pit boss pellets about 9 bucks a bag from Walmart. I've tried hickory , mesquite, comp blend. Can't really taste difference !!!!

No I bought a 35 buck cover for mine . It sits on back patio.

Re: My new pellet smoker - 08/19/20 02:37 PM

If you get one DO YOUR RESEARCH !! Best thing about a pit boss is it has a steel plate you can slide if you want to "flamekist" you steaks. BETTER READ the reviews !!!!

One thing you will have to remember if you are watching it and you go from 300 to 400 degrees it will go over 400 for a few minutes because it speeds up the feed to raise the temp then slows back down to stabilize. Don't freak out when it does it.
Got mine from Walmart .com 499. WORTH EVERY penny. They had the smaller version but I wanted the side tray and the big surface for family cook outs.
I'm telling you until you eat something cooked on a PITBOSS you can't imagine the difference. Pork chops just fall off the bone.

One thing I may add I'm grilling this stuff. Only "smoked" one thing that was the chicken . But you still get the smoked flavor .
Propane sucks !!!!!!

No more turning food, flame ups, wondering when the tank will run out? Gone are those days !!!!!!

That is the one drawback of the pellet grill. You can go mow lawn or do other chores. Might want to tell the wife that you need to sit and watch it carefully so things don't burn (while sipping cold ones).

The pellets look the same but you have to watch which ones you use. I've read that some of the heating pellet brands use chemicals that are not safe for cooking food. I have gotten pellets from Rural King at 8 bucks for a 20 lb bag or Cabelas when they have free shipping. I have made all kinds of things on mine. Makes the best pulled pork I've had and is supper easy.

Re: My new pellet smoker - 08/19/20 04:08 PM

Don't use the heating pellets. Use a good brand of cooking pellets i tried different brands the cheap off brands seem to draw moisture bad. I ran a green mountain for about 5 years now and it's been great. I have the pit boss 7 shelf smoker so for everything besides hamburgers and stake the smoker does a better job. You can taste the smoke in the smoker never been able to tell the difference in the flavor of the pellets in the grill. If i go back with a pellets grilled it will be a pit boss.
