Any body make your own?
I have an old dead elm tree down and I thought I'd like to try to make charcoal.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
Is elm a good wood for something like that? I know hickory is good but I don't have one of those.
I've done some reading but that's all I know.

Lots of good videos on YouTube about it. Not sure about elm. Hardwoods are supposed to be the best. I don't bbq but plan on making some for the garden, it's called Biochar when you put it in the garden. Same stuff as lump charcoal though.

OK, OK, since you insist on trying to pry it out of my head.

Any wood is good for charcoal. Hardwood, softwood, fruitwood, junkwood. All fine.

When you make charcoal the only thing remaining is carbon. It provides heat. Heat, and only heat. Personally, I mostly make it from the typical meat smoking woods, Ie: Oak, Hickory, Apple.

Why? because I love the smell while making the charcoal. When it's done, it's fuel. Nothing More.
