Prayers please daughter shot - 08/23/20 03:24 PM

My daughter appears to have tripped on her way to shoot a coon in a trap in the garden and fell on my .22 ruger pistol she was going to use and she must have fired it while trying to catch her self. It went in her shoulder and out in the back. Injuries to the clavicle artery and something hit her lung also. She is in prep for surgery now.

Gun safety doex not get a lot of attention when it comes to use on the trap line But this shows why it should .A trip or fall or a critter lunges at you and you accidentally fire Often you are checking traps in the dark ,in and around water that might mean slippery conditions . And cement bridges ,steel culverts can lead to ricochets We all need to be thinking about the dangers that are possible Best wishes and a speedy recovery for your daughter

When your kids turn 18 get a power of attorney signed. You may not think you need it it if they get hurt. HIPAA laws make it hard to get information and have any say. Ponder it and think me later. You don't need 2 try to get one especially during a covid-19 epidemic. Attorneys are not even allowed to get up there or in and it won't do it without being able to make sure whomever assigning is competent and understands what they are signing. Of course that's good unless they can't get in 2 them to do that.

She's in recovery still has a tube in her chest for the deflation of lungs are inflation. My wife gave the phone to and all of that will to speak to her today she sounded like a regular old self. She clipped the artery that goes into your arm broken ribs cracked scapula and Trauma 1 lung.

X2 very good advise.

Had a coworker a few years back. She was mid 20's at the time. Hispanic girl , very short 5'1". Looked very young for her age. She took her 2yo to the ER for a minor incident. They refused her care for the 2yo because they thought she looked too young to be the mother of the 2yo even with proper identification like a drivers license. They made her mother come to the ER (grandmother of 2yo) before they were able to get care.

Grandmother ripped them a new one. I don't blame her. Can you imagine if the 2yo needed more serious care ?
Hospitals/HIPAA/insurance companies all can be very stubborn at times when you don't have time to waste.

Quote
All over a Coon .....

People can get badly hurt or killed over the craziest of stuff. I worked as pharm tech for 12 years, taking meds around the hospital, making iv's. We had a younger guy, probably in his 30s roll his car a number of times and was belted in. By the x roll, the car top was smashed in a bit and last big flip ended up on top of the only noticeable rock in the ditch or field, can't remember where the car ended up. The rock ended up under the car top square center on this guy's upside down melon. Brain dead.

The girl's wound sounded like Reagan's except that .22 game in from about a 90-degree different angle. I'm praying for a full recovery of the girl's wound. Its a good deal there were trauma surgeons around. A clipped artery in the out days would have led to a eventual internal bleed out.

Her Dr. Called and said he plans on having her release tomorrow between 1 and 3. She raise her arm. She can grip with her hand and make her shoulder move.
I have yet to see her but she said no when I asked her if she could use her arm to get a drink from a 12oz can. If its Gods will she will heal in time.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes and a special thanks for the offer of traveling from a few states away to help via pm.

Re: Prayers please daughter shot - 11/02/20 09:04 AM

Thought I would update everyone. She has regained some movement in her arm but her fingers and thumb dont extend properly, her deltoid dose not work so no raising her arm above her head or out to the side. That will be permanent. There are some surgeries that may help with her fingers down the road.

In a couple weeks she will have surgery to remove the main chunk of bullet that's just under the skin and causes her a lot of irritation and keeps her from sleeping on her back.

She seems in good spirits and started her first job its part time at our local farm store last week.

Re: Prayers please daughter shot - 11/18/20 06:21 AM

Crazy all this was caused by something as simple as going to kill a coon in the garden. How many thousands of coon have we walked up to with a gun in our hand, how many times have we trip-hopped down riprap at a bridge with a loaded gun? How many times have we stumbled or fell with a gun, I know I have more than once.

Prayers for your daughter's continued recovery.
