Officer shot update...officer died - 08/26/20 06:24 PM

One of our LPD officers just got shot in the chest while serving a search warrant. 17 year old kid wanted for a murder back in March, still on the loose. No word on how the officer is doing.

No idea if he was wearing a vest or not, but he was hit, so either no vest or hit above the vest.

It's only in the movies where people take shots to the vest and laugh it off. The reality is a hit could result in severe contusion and broken ribs, other trauma such as organ damage, cardiac arrest, not to mention psychological. (depending on a number of factors of course, caliber, velocity, proximity etc.) A hit is a hit with or without body armour.

Found out he was hit below the vest in the abdomen, not the chest. He had emergency surgery and is out of surgery and in critical but stable condition, and will of course require more surgeries. The kid that shot him was caught.

I heard on local am radio show that he was shot in the abdomen. May have been under the vest. Local TV and FM radio were not reporting it yesterday.

They were serving a warrant for murder on the kid when the officer was shot. Hope he recovers.

I can’t help but wonder what the story would be if the cop shot first. Or if there was hesitation from the officer due to the recent narrative.

Now cops not only have to worry about not coming home to their families due to being hurt or killed, they have to worry about not coming home due to being prosecuted for following their training

Officer Luis "Mario" Herrera died last night. He's the first Lincoln Police Department officer to die in the little be of duty since 1968.

Does Nebraska have capital punishment...?

I don't care if the kid is 17. If he has killed 2 different people in 2 different situations, the citizens of NB shouldn't have to pay for his upkeep the next 60-70 years. The first and only felon in SD to die in the electric chair was a guy who shot a state trooper in the late 1940s. South Dakota now has lethal injection and we've nearly cleared "death row" for the past half a dozen years or so-- started with 7, now down to 1. But there has been a rash of homicides in 2020 across the state so the lonely only still on the 'row" will probably get at least one more for company after the various trials...

Yes, Nebraska does have capital punishment. There are currently 12 on death row repealing and wasting money. The retired Sparky, the electric chair and use lethal injection.

Re: Officer shot - 09/07/20 09:42 PM

South Dakota officials finally made the loser from Rapid City take his last breath last year. He had been sentenced to death in the early 1990s and was the longest one of the "row". He used to write "letters to the editor" in the Argus Leader on a regular basis when I used to read that rag. He thought he was smarter than everybody else. Well, not any more...
