found a deep cycle battery along the road. battery checks out good, but the case is cracked. could this be caulked shut? or is it a lost cause?

Epoxy perhaps? Acid is tough to beat.

worth the money as a core,
if you were going to try and seal it and use ti I would make sure to keep it in a battery box that won't leak if the seal fails

You might be able to “weld” it with another piece of plastic and a kids wood burner

Decent scrap value , one of the things I save/hunt for scrap. Prices go up and down , when high can be worth as much as $10 per battery.

stores charge a 12 buck core charge here, so that makes it worth 12 bucks to me lol

Epoxy will work, clean it up rough it up and epoxy it. You may have to adjust electrolyte level in the effected cells.

If it leaks you can get an explosion or major corrosion on whatever the acid leaks out on. Personally I would just recycle it.
