Bet the hunter died and his wife wanted them out of her house. Should have asked about his guns.

Estate garage sale. Man had a taxidermy business and died 10 years ago. Wife. Died a few months ago. Lots of old mounts. I only wanted the deer. Great sale I bought a lot of old stuff. They were both in their 90s. I paid 20 for total for both mounts. Thanks

Re: Old mounts - 09/13/20 08:12 PM

I’d take the antlers off and sell them. Could easily get $1000 for them.

Re: Old mounts - 09/13/20 08:12 PM

If the other mounts were that cheap I would have bought them all.

Re: Old mounts - 09/13/20 10:03 PM

Anybody know what the antlers are worth? Jurassic got me wondering. I don’t believe they are worth that much. Thanks

Re: Old mounts - 09/13/20 10:27 PM

that wt set has some value as a set. Will need a width measurement and more pics to give you an estimate

The mule deer probably pound price, unless it has been varnished.

If you get down to Moscow and I can see it in person, I will make you an offer.

Too bad the Canadian border is still closed, otherwise Jim should be making a trip north.... smile

Would have liked to have seen what else was at the sale. Bet there was neat stuff and money to be made.

Pretty cool and for 20 bucks you got one heck of a deal. Hard to pass that up.

Send them to the Colorado sale, 7X what you paid at least.

Be sure to factor in shipping costs. It won’t be cheap to adequately package and ship those heads. Just saying........

I put up more pics. Shipping would be most prohibitive😱

X-ray them , could be sheds put together.

Re: Old mounts - 09/14/20 02:57 AM

Definitely bring them to the closest vet clinic and tell them you want to xray your mounts. Film it so we can see their reactions.

Still sticking with $1000. $750 for the whitetail and $250 for the muley.

Yeah,

But that's 1,000 in Canadian monopoly money !! LOL laugh

Advertise that whitetail rank in Texas Trophy Hunters magazine

and you'd a offer of at least $1,000 dollars.

You'd do well on the mulie rack as well.

Well she's always a little emotional, and tends to overreact.

The muley is nothing special, probably $25 plus or minus.

The whitetail isn't much more than poundage either, but has the drop, and some people get irrational about drops.

If someone offered me $50 or more for it, I would jump on it.

And that’s the difference between me and you!

Re: Old mounts - 09/18/20 12:35 PM

Well, I dabble a bit in collecting old mounts and antlers and around here I would expect to see a price of about $225.00 on the Mulie and maybe $300.00 on the whitetail depending on the source. Of course they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay but finding the right person who is willing to pay a higher price can be difficult. They are both cool mounts but not worth huge money....just my opinion.
