Prosperous Cherry Tomato Plant - 09/18/20 03:24 AM

This spring my son in law started some cherry tomato plants. He brought me one in a pot and it sits on my front steps.
It was about 2 feet high when he brought it to me,it reached about 5 feet high.Just picked the 189th tomato from this plant tonight and covered it tonight for the 3rd time.
Still a lot of green ones and some buds,so it looks like it will produce over 200 of these little fruits.

For whatever reason we had a really tough time with tomatoes this year. All in huge pots on the deck. Few things better than picking off a few little ones as you walk by. Maybe next year.

My tomatoes refused to ripen. I picked 237 green ones yesterday but ripening in the basement is not the same as on the vine. I really had no choice as it got down to 24 degrees at the garden last night.

Well I'm relieved to hear I'm not alone. Many, many green tomatoes still on the vine with as low as -3 C coming over the next 3 nights.

I used to grow one in CA called Sweet 100. I had several years with huge crops from only two or three plants. At the end of the year I'd make a big pot of sauce with some local made sausages and pasta for the dove hunt dinner on the river.

my best year ever for tomatoes in quantity and quality. Things have slowed a lot the last 10 days and the plants are starting to wilt. ripening really slowed the last 10 days with the cooler days and nights. Still have a few bushel to pick and process. About 2/3rds of my garden was good to great and the other third not good to horrible.

I had a lot of tomatoes, small and large types, but it's done now. It was 23 this morning, lol.

I don't cover either. We will be in the upper 30s tonight with some warmer days and nights coming for a few more days. Probably best to pick a few pails and cover them in the garaged for a week and bring the season to an end. Want to try some spaghetti sauce this year with the abundance of crop. I never canned that before and it calls for processing and then 4-5 hours of simmering to get the pastier thickness. That will be an evening job while listening to the Brewers or watching the NHL finals. Go Brewers and Tampa Bay.

I was fortunate to have all seedlings develop into plants this year. All produced tomoatoes, from cherry to large paste tomatoes. They are still going strong but there is a first frost warning for tonight. Guess I will pick what I can from them and my hot pepper plants

My wife wanted a cherry tomato plant, so I looked for one. The only one I could find was a yellow variety called Sunsugar.
The lady I purchased it from said she planted one last year and it grew to height of 8feet and produced a lot.
I purchased one plant and put a cage around it that is 20 inches in diameter and 6 feet tall. I has OUT GROWNED the cage
and we have picked about 3 gallons (approximately 600+) and there is still a bunch of green ones on the plant. I wish I could take
a picture of this crazy thing. I guess it is about 9 feet tall.

We planted 16 plants ...in the Garden. No pots this year.

Hundreds of tomatoes...way too many .

But I can't stop buying them in the spring.

My favorite cherry tomato is the blush. Sometimes they are so sweet they taste like a plumb. I had some red cherrys (that's all the seed pack said, red cherry) planted too and I disliked the taste so much that I just up and pulled them one day. lol
