Trapping magazine with the least ads - 09/23/20 05:10 AM

What trapping magazine currently printed has the least amount of advertising inside ? Trapper and predator caller is getting ridiculous with ads. Is there something better or am I wishful thinking.

Seems to me the one with the least ads is the one least likely to survive. Ads make a magazine sustainable.

This right here!

I would judge the magazine based on amount of content compared to others.

Trappers world is pretty decent. I keep getting scared that they will go out of business.

I understand ads make a magazine sustainable, but when you receive a magazine in the mail and it's more like a supply catalog - well yeah. Is there still a magazine called trappers post ? I thought I remember someone saying that was a good one.

I enjoy trappers post.

WCT magazine is good too, but it is geared towards wildlife damage control professionals. Still a good read and very informative.

As others said, if you didn’t have ads, you wouldn’t have a magazine to enjoy. Also, I look at the ads for information sources.

I haven't subscribed in many years but the last ones I received were pretty skinny. With the current fur market I'm surprised too much advertising is a problem.

Those of us who read and advertise hope others do the same grin
I'd rather go to the dentist - 5 times - than give up a trapping magazine subscription.

I love the ads in a trapping or predator calling magazine and I have since I was about 10 years old and stumbled across the first one.

Re: Trapping magazine with the least ads - 09/23/20 09:27 PM

I worked with Dave Hastings for many years as the WTA person working with our editor. Dave shared many aspects of successful publishing and how to keep issues informative, cost effective and revenue generating. When I talked with Bob Noonan when we changed our WTA magazine to Trapper's Post there were discussions on what works well. Both were looking at the practicality of having about 30-35% ad space at respectable rates to a good, informative and customer price friendly publication. Now that can be changing over time. Another way to lower the ads in the publication is for subscribers be wiling to donate monies or voluntarily ask for higher subscription prices Having worked with Dave for about 6 plus years and seeing the invoices I think many would be surprised how much printing and postage costs to mail out even a 30-40 page quarterly magazine to 2,000 subscribers and then we usually printed more so we could use for advertising or giving to new trapper ed grads. Another issue for editors and publishers is that the potential to get advertisers for local or state magazines is much, much harder than for those with a national circulation. Also if you note many of the articles within the publication are written by authors who advertise and thus the editor and the publisher can work with people to get good educational and informative articles at what may very well be very low or limited cost.
