Last day elk - 10/01/20 11:11 PM
About 8:00 on the last morning of elk season this spike snuck in silently to some calls back in the spruce and deadfall. The 338 win mag pulled through to help me fill the freezer

Interesting. Have they always been endemic to the area or were they introduced from elsewhere?

Beautiful elk, just the right size. Yum! I used to have a .338WM. Great caliber. Puts them down right now without messing up a lot of meat with super fast bullet. Wish I still had it. I hope it's cool enough by you to give that elk a nice hang. Congrats and Bon Appetite.

Alexander Henry the Younger described them in Manitoba in about 1804-6 in his journals. They hunted them south of Winnipeg in the tall grass prairie near Morris MB. When they homesteaded our farm 1880's there was many sheds found and several were sent to the Museum of Man and Nature and were used in the sub-species description back in the day.
With that reply can I get a steak out of it.....congrats on your harvest.
