New trapping canoe!

New trapping canoe! - 10/05/20 11:19 PM

After a ton of research and asking folks from here, I finally pulled the trigger on a new sportspal 11' square stern for trapping. This should last quite a long time.

11' long and a whopping 48 lbs.

Now to see how many muskrats I can fit in it!

Looks small and durable. Tell us how it handles once you get it out.

I think you're gonna like it. I picked up a used one this spring and had it out duck hunting a couple times this last weekend and I love it. Don't let the folks that say they handle like a bathtub get you down, mine paddles just fine. Glides great and tracks ok for such a short craft. Very sturdy, I stood up in mine and even fired my shotgun while standing and facing the side of the canoe and didn't feel like I was even close to tipping.

I have hauled crazy loads in a Sports pal. Love them, not crazy durable, but quiet, light and light and really handle well with heavy loads which is great for trapping application.

Good luck and congrats!

Very nice I have used them for years, they will take a real beating and keep going.I still use some that were crushed up like a popcan and beat back into commission.Light and tough.
No good on big water in the wind though.Blow around like a dry leaf.

Looks like it will be a lot of fun. Should be able to pass it on to your kids or grand kids.

Boco is right. Sportspal on a good lake in the wind means shore lunch.

You did good. Dependable, sturdy craft. I have one and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Let's see some catch/canoe pics later, ok?
My best to you this season.

I paid $350 for mine this spring and put another $125 into it with new sponsons and came paint. Not sure what the weight capacity is though. I taped over my capacity plate and painted over it to hide that big yellow sticker on the front!
