I wore the Beans in the 70's and 80's,quite a bit,Not so much in steep areas. They were a nice, quiet, bowhunting boot.Back then, they offered an insulated pac with the old style,Vibram,Montagna sole. Those were the bomb in mountainous terrain, snow etc,I still have that pair.
These days,I mostly wear Schnees pacs. One pair is uninsulated, the other is insulated with changeable liners. Both are better quality than the Beans and have solid bob soles.I find they have better traction than the old Vibram,Montagna soles.Excellent boots,in the mountains or otherwise.
If you have a pair of these Kahtoola Micro Spikes, even those Beans will go anywhere.Great on ice and I wear them a lot,in the mountains when snow is on.It doesn't matter how steep the incline. You can walk up an ice incline with ease, wearing them. And remember, you burn a lot more energy, slipping and sliding than when you have great traction.
