Got 'em baited in "update"

Today was the last of the 3 day muzzeloader season. The first 2 days I passed up this bear but the bigger one would not show up until it was too dark to see my sights, so when this one came by at 6:30 tonite I shot her. A 2 or 3 year old female she will be great eating when cooked on my fire pit. Shot at 6:30, drove her 12 miles to the check in station, then back to my barn to skin, bone out 4 quarters, cut off the ribs and had it all in 2 hours, done by 8:30 tonite. Weighed 154 dressed.

Just checked the trail cam pictures and 7 minutes after I shot this bear the big one walked out!! First pic is the one I shot, second and third are the bigger bear right after. Last pic is the bigger bear from 10/15

Wow, there are some tubbies in your area!! These are still New Jersey bears...? Nice action on the smoke poles. I think some of these hunting regs are put in in a political attempt to show, "oh people can still hunt" but really expecting anyone to score with them. I'm glad you did!!

Was 17 minutes after. Bigger bear is in the 450 to 500 pound range, I have seen him in daylight several times this year. We get bears here in Jersey up into the 800's. Few years ago my neighbor got one that was 836. All our bears must be taken to a checking station and are weighed there so this is not a "guess-timate".

I dont think that you replied to my earlier comment. I had heard (rumor?) that there was not going to be any more bear hunting in NJ after this year. Is that right?......jk

jk I have heard that also. Next year is (I believe) re-election year for NJ governor so it would not surprise me if he pulled a "no bear hunt " stunt. He killed more people in 3 months by putting virus patients in our nursing homes than we have killed bears in the last 10 years, but he worries about the bears.

I think you shot the right bear. Fat boy would have rendered down to nothin!
