One of the best days hunting ever...

One of the best days hunting ever... - 10/18/20 09:33 PM

.....and I didn't even see a deer.
But the scenery was incredible. I was in western Washington for the gerneral deer opener.
When I'm there for that event I usually don't even bother hunting opening weekend, I usually wait a week or so until the area I hunt is productive.
But, a couple of friends wanted to up to the lake cabin and hunt our property. What a great time we had even though nothing got shot.
Pictures were taken yesterday morning before rain and wind moved in.
That lenticular cloud above "the mountain" is a sure sign of incoming weather.

You guys who have sailed would see a stack of those lenticular clouds way before you would see an island under it. Brings back a lot of long ago memories......jk

Yes, but it is the second highest and the most beautiful (most photographed) mountain in the "States".
Mount Whitney in Southern California is about 495 feet higher than Rainier, it's a cool looking ridge but not nearly as iconic as Rainier.

I did see a illustration once that showed all the largest mountains of the USA superimposed on each other. The height of a mountain doesn't really tell the whole story. The entire mass of Mount Mckinley (Denali) is incredible, nearly encompassing all the other mountains of the US combined.

And I get excited over a hill that goes up in elevation about 30ft, lol.

Back in the late 70's when I was buying fur in the midwest I was driving somewhere in the north half of Illinois.
I was really lonesome for the mountains when off in the distance I saw some topography, I got a little excite as I thought I was approaching at least a hill or small mountain of some sort.
What rather rapidly came into view was what must have been the hugest pile of corn cobs in the world; what a letdown.

Mountain scenery is beautiful and hunting in the mountains is like no other, just a little tough to breathe up there for a flatlander!
