Yet you can get other calibers for far less around $20. That doesn't make any sense. If you know how to post pics I'd like to see the price posted on the shelf and what store this is at. I'm thinking it's mispriced.

not that there is much on the shelves I see a little here and there in 170gr worst I have seen was 19.99 a box but at least they had them on the shelf

last box I bought a few weeks ago Winchester power points I can't recall the price right now it was in the teens 14.99 15.99 or 16.99

are you running something special that it would be so expensive that sounds like that store wouldn't get my business any more for price gauging.

Barnes ammunition was part of Freedom group Remington , and has been sold , but will not be produced for a while most likely. this could lead to the price increase

but there is other very useable 30-30 around in short but not un-available supply.

maybe 1K of 30-30 is a but much 200 cases fired 5 times each.

if you sight in and hunt on less than 20 rounds a years 500 rounds is 25+years of hunting and sight in.

if you enjoy shooting targets for fun and good practice 500 rounds is not that much

12K of 22lr if you enjoy shooting with your kids. a trip to the range with 3 kids and yourself is 500 rounds for the day is only 24 trips to the range if you get out once a month 2 years worth buy it by the case every time you get low 5K in case

this year I haven't shot that much but in previous years with league , practice , postal matches 5K a year was going down range

But my point is UNLESS you are putting on a new scope every year( or can't shoot ) 20 a year of 30-30 is much. Most hunters kill one deer or 2. OK 3 to check for zero. 17 to hunt with. BUT wait there was a bunch of Buckeyes (4)leased a farm beside us and they shot around 75- 100 shots over a 3 day weekend. So maybe you northerns can't shoot. Or you got lots of money and don't worry about the number of shells you sling. !!!!
You talked about 5,000 rounds a year how many of those where 30-30 ?

As for the 12,000 22 that was in his closet not what was in his gun cabinet he hunted / plinked with.....

depended on the year , during the 22 shortage I did a bunch of cast bullet 30-30 shooting I was loading them for less than 22lr 250 or so those years

the years I went 5K were mostly 223 for rifle clinics and pracitce , 9mm and 22lr for league and marksmanship clinics.

Action pistol league and practice eats rounds when your trying to shave seconds off your times 3k just in 9mm I am not that busy of a shooter the guys running an USPSA match nearly every weekend with practice 15K 9mm in a season wasn't difficult. same goes for 3 gun competitors I never got onto tournaments or 3 gun.

Local Dicks today had .243 Remington Core-Lokt for $20.99... was surprised because I though Dicks quit carrying guns and ammo. This one had a wall full of guns and a fair amount of ammo, although not a ton of variety.

Well if you've got a store around you may want to check there. I looked at Cabela's today and it's around $18 to $20 a box, if you want the fancy stuff for a 30-30 it's a bit more. I'm glad I don't need to go on ammoseek.I wouldn't pay that. Wal Mart here doesn't have any and is about out of everything but they had a few boxes of 308 for $19 a box, 2 boxes of 270 was that too. 7 Mag is higher and that was pretty much all they had.
Cabelas has a selection of different calibers.
I never thought I'd see 30-30 go for that.
