Tires

First, I don’t know nothing about tires and won’t pretend that I do. It’s time for a new set on the commuter. My tire guy is gone and I’m now left to my own devices. What is a good or in your opinion the best all season tire and why. Commuter is a Kia Soul, nothing fancy and nothing off road on purpose. LOTS of rain in the winter, a few good spats of snow and ice each season, nothing to drastic conditions wise.

Any thoughts?

Man , Id worry more about replacing the Kia soul than its tires ..

I live on gravel roads(tear up your tires) and have been impressed with Hankook. Middle of the road price and good wear.

Not cooper IMO. Never had a set on anything that I liked.

What size tires?

ebay tires and discount tires direct will ship you a set way cheaper than your local supplier likely and you can just have them mounted and balanced at the local shop.

My take on some discount tires .....I had a 2004 Hyundai Accent , a daily beater that my Mother gave me when she gave up driving. I put a lot of miles on it, but near the end of its life I needed new tires for it. I found a set on Walmart website...$133 for 4 all season radials...no delivery charge. Got them mounted on rims, and within 5000 miles of driving you could see the tread wearing. I junked the car for other reasons, but I don’t think I would have got 15,000 miles from that set. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Bigbrownie , no offence to your mother , just props for her to give up on driving when she thought it was prudent.

My grandfather gave up on driving after a fender bender. Much respect on our older generation who has the smarts to give up the privilege of driving before they or someone else gets hurt.

Much respect and kudos to them who realised their time was done before they got sued to the point where they would not be able to drive anymore.

When my time comes I now have the wisdom now to see the reality and will hurt me A LOT to give up the keys if I am not able to drive safely anymore. Hope that day never comes , but prepared if it does due to elder family members.

Personally I'd look into the Toyo tires they have tires that will run for a very long time give you go traction and will be dependable I'm sure they won't be as cheap as others but what's your family's as well as your own safety worth.

I am a Black Friday tire buyer now...We are close to Black Friday. Let me explain, I went a couple years too long on my dedicated snowplow truck for the homestead. A 2000 S-10 I bought new, I put all for tires on mounted, and balanced for $225.00 Good year wranglers 235/75/R15. Place was packed with tire buyers, went in with Black Friday add bought tires, gave me a certificate and receipt then I came back a week later when the rush was over and had them mounted up.

On my commuter car I started buying the cheapest tires I can find. I found some that are really cheap. I think the brand name is Ohtsu. Made in India or Pakistan or something like that. Anyways... they have held up pretty well and I've had no problems with them. I'm well into my second set and they have been a great value for me.

I wouldn't put them on my pickup or my wife's car. But my commuter car is a piece of junk anyways. So who cares.

Just about any tire with a decent milage rating, stay away from the cheap 30.000 mile rated tires.

Size 205 60/16

Looking at Michelin Cross Climate II and the Nokian WR G4. Both have pretty good deals locally right now, $79 and $81 per tire, out the door. Good all weather reviews do decent mileage life, 60,000 each, for me about 2 1/2 years on the commute. Any thoughts or knowledge on these tries? Looked at Cooper and Toyo with a few others and keep coming back to these two for the reviews.

Another vote for hankook. I run them on my yota, the trapping truck. Had flats all the time before I switched, and picked up a screw in one last winter, has been the only low tire I've had in the last 8-10 years. Lots of honey locust trees around here, and stopped the flat tire ritual in it's tracks, and they wear like iron on gravel roads.

Of those two, Michelin always had great luck with them.
