Mine would be my Remington 514 or Ithaca model 66 which is sort of mine It’s mine but won’t be in my possession till my dad says so. Also the Belgium made Browning 16ga A-5 my grandpa gave me.

1914 Remington autoloading, Moms rifle. Will eventually put a barrel liner in it and rechamber to .22LR. as ammo is impossible to find other than a few antique rounds @ $12.00 each. I watched her father, my Granddad strike kitchen matches at ten paces with that old gun.

Winchester model 94 made in 1911. Slick smooth action, delightful trigger pull, pretty good sights. Was my wife's grandfathers's. He emigrated from Finland as a child, owned a small farm in northern Minnesota. It was his one and only gun.

Re: Favorite older gun - 10/27/20 11:33 AM

Dad's H&R revolver that he bought in the mid fifties. That gun has killed thousands of critters. That's the gun he carried when working for the State of Virginia in 60's trapping foxes for rabies control, as well as just about all his trapping expeditions. I had it reblued, because it was showing signs of rust here and there. It's now my Trapline gun.

Re: Favorite older gun - 10/27/20 12:24 PM

All of my dad’s guns are my favorites. If I had to pick one I guess it would be his pre-64 Winchester in 30-06. He killed elk, moose and bear with that gun from Alaska to Newfoundland and from the Rockies to the east coast.

He killed dozens of deer and hundreds and of ground hogs with it here in PA.

I’m doing my best to carry on the tradition with that old rifle.

Second favorite would be dad’s old Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. Dad bought it new in 1953 and killed his first buck with it that same year. I killed my first buck with it and my daughter killed her first buck with it. Hopefully my granddaughter carries on that tradition next year when she turns twelve.

Got a Winchester Model 12,,16gauge when I was 9 years old(53 years ago).Killed pretty much everything with that gun.Rabitts, ducks, geese, partridge,,squirrels and deer.My older son has it now,,and will pass it down to one of his sons.

Re: Favorite older gun - 10/27/20 12:32 PM

The most mysterious gun I inherited from my dad is an old Lovell Champion manufactured in the early 1900s as far as I can tell. I found it leaning in a corner of an out building when I was going through his stuff after he had passed away. I’m pretty sure it belong to my grandfather but I was never told anything about this gun and really don’t know anything about it.

Information about them is hard to find. If anybody knows anything about, or has any sources of information on a single shot Lovell Champion, 12 gauge hammer gun, I would appreciate it.

Re: Favorite older gun - 10/27/20 01:19 PM

I have and have had MANY older pre '64 guns but if I had to pick one that means the most to me it would be the old H&R model 999 Sportsman.

Like Paul, this one belonged to my dad and is my favorite trapline revolver. I have used it as such for the past 60 years or so and it is the first handgun I ever shot when I was 7 years old.

12 ga Stevens pump. Ma bought it for dad in 57' same year I was born. A truck can't haul everything that gun has killed. Still shoots as well today as when it was new. Full choke that shoots a very tight pattern. Besides all the game it has killed, it has won many many many lbs. of meat at turkey shoots also.

Need to add to this , basically all my guns !!!
1 Model 37 single barrel (got when I was 12)
2. 700 BDL 6mm (got when I was 14)
3. rem 870 wingmaster (bought new in box for $100 when I was 13)
4. rem 788 222 cal ( got when I was 14)

EVERY one of these were bought and paid for from fur money. Had 4 11/2 northwoods coil springs I would check before school. But most of my fox I got from watching dens or calling early mornings. WALKED EVERYWHERE !!

First year I killed 13 gray foxes and got ave 30 bucks each. Next 3 years I killed over 50 foxes. 58 the year they went to 53 bucks each. For a 15 year old I WAS RICH !!! 1978 plus it was cash money from local buyer !!!!

I believe the name ranger chief was used by Sears Roebuck & Company. I think they are Old Model Stevens Model 311. Try google images and see if it looks like what you got.
