At any age, another year or 2 can make a difference. Constant worry can wear down a persons overall well being and make you feel old.

I'm 33, and I feel ancient. That's halfway to 66, which is practically in the grave.

Get a physical to see if your system is still good.
If you quit eating sugar and carbs, you'll drop weight and feel younger.
Your joints will thank you also.

Re: Start feel old - 11/02/20 10:18 PM

I think it has a lot to do with your job. You said you hate it there. I’m only 32 and the last couple years I’ve felt more and more old, body aching all the time. Knees hurt, back hurt, shoulders hurt, stiff and weak all the time. I hated my job too, every day. Now that I have been laid off from that job for a while and have been doing work I don’t hate my body feels so much better. There’s a lot to be said about How your state of mind affects your physical body. I think you really need to consider finding a job that you enjoy more, it would be really good for your health and well-being. I bet you wouldn’t be considering retirement if you didn’t hate your job.

The best thing you can do is NOT stop trying doing new things or even old things you did before. It may take a little longer but who cares. Keep trying. JMO

Do you get a yearly physical ...? If not get one...get some blood work done...and a stress test.

The bruise of many years. I'll be sixty-one in a few days and after a lifetime of manual labor, mostly masonry, everything hurts all the time.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 03:00 AM

I've noticed over the years that I'm not as old as most people my age. Best I can do. No way am I at top speed. However, I was still able to lift and flip a full 55 gallon drum into the boat this year. I'm not sure I can carry 100lb propane tanks anymore though. frown

Beavers sure seem a lot heavier too.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 04:56 AM

I am 72 and I have noticed significant strength decline in the last 2-3 years. Was doing well until then so to speak. I notice my hand strength decline a lot and also my upper body strength and also my balance. just harder to jump up quick and move quickly, especially wading the rocky rivers. I have not gone to the gym since a year ago in April when my hip went bad. The place has been closed since mid- March as well. Need to buy some home exercise equipment when we finish our basement remodeling.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 05:28 AM

I guess I was in my 70th year when I started to feel the aches, pains and began to lose that feeling of exuberance, I had all my life. That was about 9 years ago and each year things get a little worse, I do believe. Once you lose that zest, then the mental parts begin to slip a little at a time.

Then you have the days that either the mental or the physical part of your feels really great, but the other part doesn't want to cooperate. Those are the hard days.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 05:44 AM

I just started to notice I was getting older about sixty. I realized it when I could only out work 80 percent of the men half my age. 8 1/2 years later it's only 50 percent. Mental toughness is easily as important as physical toughness when you get older. Stop thinking about it. Funny thing is it really only hurts at the end of the day. Stiff in the morning but once those muscles get.loosened up and I'm focused on what I need to do I barely notice it.

Darn you. You just reminded me of the old bearded guy that walks down the road in the middle of nowhere with a cain.... in a speedo even when it's under 50°. Has got to be a California transplant.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 11:43 AM

After talking to or just seeing many people my age (58) or even younger I feel pretty good about my self but I can feel the decline creeping in. I worked in the woods cutting timber for 20 years and still dont know if that made me tougher or helped with the decline lol.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 12:00 PM

I am now 74 and just realized that I can't jump as high as I used to and the bow is getting harder to pull. My bicycle trips take longer too. The key, I think, is to keep moving because if you stop it is harder to start again.

Re: Start feel old - 11/03/20 08:09 PM

70 here today on election day. Started feeling the old at about 65. Got 30 years on a metal heart valve and a Dacron Aorta.
Still bucking hay and working cows. That shows my intelligence not the feeling of age.
