Need Some Ideas... Trespassers

I’m about at my wits end with my psycho neighbor. His property a joins mine, he claims some religion that he can’t hunt or eat meat but he’s obsessed with deer. He has the infatuation every deer season that everyone around him is poaching. He is the ultimate harasser to me and other neighbors. Tonight i go out to check my trail cams, i pull the card and it’s not even my sd card. I run only sandisk sd cards and my cameras got some off the wall beat up sd card in it. Unfortunately it wasn’t working in my camera so it didn’t have any pics on it. I don’t know why someone would switch the cards but i’m 99% sure it was him. Anyway, i need some clever ideas to catch this guy. I would really like to catch him and get him for trespassing.

Set up a cell cam or a hidden cam.

Other well hidden cameras. Watching the original cameras.

Do like the rest of us and put a second camera bout 10 ft up, blended in some aimed at the first camera.

Copy pix then take SD card to Sherriff ofc. Easy peasy.

That is a problem I have also not from neighbors but out of state hunters mostly. I have quite a few security/game cams out and they are pad locked. I also have sings on fence and in spots where they can see the signs. The signs say "camera's in use" and also no trespass sings. Like someone said, you need to place many camera's and in hope you don't catch him on camera but the goal is to keep him off your property, so it may work.

I would report the incident to your local LEO. They should have a digital forensic examiner that can quickly pull that card up and see if there are any deleted pictures on it. What are the odds he put in a brand new card. If the card was ever used for anything it likely has pictures on it that are sitting in what's called the unallocated space. I could plug that card in, and in 2 minutes tell you if there was anything ever on it. Digital data lasts a long long time. Any LEO that says it's to much work for a trespassing case isn't working hard enough. I cant tell you how many SD cards I have pulled digital data from, some images a decade old. Data is stored as positive and negative electrical charges and will last until something changes it.

Up until this point he does all the harassing from his own property, he’s not stupid, he’s crazy! Define man up? I’m definitely capable, the guy is darn near 75 yrs old. Wouldn’t be a problem wiping the floor with him but then i’m in trouble, probably get sued or thrown in jail, loose my right to buy guns, etc! I’ve also got three young kids i don’t want him messing with if he went for revenge.

Google how to make a paintball mine. Replace the paint with pure skunk essence. Place it so it gets tripped when they go to check the camera.

I’ve spoken to him quite a few times, acts like my best friend to my face but literally in his head anyone that hunts is a poacher. I couldn’t tell you how many times the CO has showed up to my house, he goes as far as calling different officers because i haven’t been arrested for poaching (hunting). I’m not just saying he’s mentally crazy, he is actually insane, he tells everyone my neighbor tried to kill him with a crossbow, says he shot at him through his truck door, last year he pulled his pistol on another guy who hunts next to his property. It’s one thing after another, several years back the CO actually set up at night behind my house at night to try and catch him off his property. Their just as sick of the guy as i am and were thinking he might actually be the one poaching. I got a text from him in the middle of the night last season that guys were poaching in my woods, it was literally pouring rain in the middle of a thunderstorm with 40mph winds, nobody was back their. I just politely tell him i’ll check the cameras. I was shooting my hawken at the house one day and i get a text from him that someones in my woods poaching with a .22magnum. He literally makes these things up in his head and he really believes it. I’ve about had it with the guy.

Talk to the CO who set up behind your house and give him the sd card

Have you ever looked at a restraining order. In the peoples republic of Minnesota you can place a harassment restraining order on a person. If he calls or texts you he goes to jail. Look and see if that's an option for you. Maybe a few trips to jail may change his attitude.

Sounds like a crazy old timer. Tough situation. If he is pulling pistols on people on their own property it sounds like the problem just might work itself out though.

If you are a avid hunter and trapper I wouldn't think it would take much to catch a 75 year old man trespassing. Whip out your cell phone and video the confrontation of you running him off and send it to the warden.

Sounds like you and the neighbors that he has been involved with need to go to the local law as a group and demand something be done before he hurts someone.

Like others have said, a second camera (no flash is a must) above reaching height aimed at camera he knows about will catch him in the act

And around that ground decoy camera, smear a whole lot of lure with some good skunk essence smell to it so his clothes rub it.

Well i contacted a local photographer and he said he knows how and would be willing to recover the deleted SD card so with any luck i’ll be able to identify the culprit!

Several years ago i got him on video trespassing and harassing, the game warden turned it in to the prosecuting attorney to start a case. The guy backed off for a couple years and now he’s back at it! I’m really hoping i can recover the deleted pics from the sd card and get the ball rolling again.

Get a 2x10 and pound a bunch of 3 1/2" spikes through it. Then bury the board at the base of the tree your cameras on with the nails coming through leaf litter.

Better yet, and this works. Many smaller boot size 1x6 boards, and drywall screws about 3 inch. Plenty of grip, they have to be pulled off and the screw threads tend to have crap and other stuff on them. Before and after removing from a foot. Sounds mentally ill. I lived near a little town where an old crazy guy had dozens of cats and he kept accusing people of stealing them. House was ridden with fleas. He finally flipped and pulled a pistol on his neighbor accusing him of taking a cat. He was arrested and turns out he had several loaded rifles laying around the house, which was cat urine soaked to the point he supposedly had ammonia poisoning from the fumes. If thats actually a thing. His family took the opportunity to have him put in a home. Maybe see about contacting his family and otherwise the sheriffs office. Game wardens and a ticket arent gonna solve mental illness. I mean, look how meds kept Biden together enough to probably get elected.

I do not think any law prohibits you putting skunk essence on your property. LOL Just do it.

I use to have a guy with a deer blind just about on the property line facing my woods on a good deer trail. I use to go out a couple of days before season with a mixture of fabric softener & diesel fuel and let it soak into dead decaying logs right near his blind on my property. He was having a hard time trying to figure out the deer stopped using the trail during hunting season.

Yeah mentally ill is right, if i had to guess the guy is off his meds!! My biggest concern is when i have the kids back there, you never know what someone that nuts is thinking. I really don’t want to mess with the guy as long as he ain’t messin with me, i just want to enjoy my property and the great outdoors!

Interesting remedies. Not to be a preacher here but one has to be very careful when setting up a trap for someone on your land. People sue over anything and intent to hurt/harm can be them owning your place.

Mentally ill do not play by the rules and laws. And never expect them too. And never trust what they say one minute to the next.

Depending how comfortable you feel around him. But let him know you're trying to catch the poachers on your property.

Years ago a local deputy went to the neighbors house, gramps was out of his mind,.. and killed his neighbor, friend and deputy.


Ive had others take and replace SD cards. One card was returned to the cameras in the same area 1 1/2 years later.

Not a real crazy lady, had a goofy lady near a field we goose hunted, I parked near her house so she could see my truck ,.. all the calls to me the CO , police and sheriff ended

I had a dog that kept climing the gate in the pen she was in put a peice of metal down and ran a electrical cord hooked to it and she never climbed out in that spot again.

I had the neighbor set a trail cam on my property on a trail that led to his field. Was going to change out his SD card and slip one in that had a porn video of a cartoon buck having sex with a doe.

Claymores at his front door and back door should do the trick...
