coyote heart location - 11/07/20 03:25 AM

if you google coyote heart location 99% of the diagrams are way off.. i dispatch coyotes with a 22 short to the heart and usually tip over in just a couple seconds and the hole clots up so no or not much blood when skinning them.

Good info, thanks. Tired of head shots and blood everywhere at the trap site.

Against the law here. A .22 must be carried and used to dispatch the animal.

.22 Cal. Rimfires

It is unlawful to fail to carry a weapon of .22 cal. rimfire while tending traps and to use that weapon to dispatch any furbearing animal to be taken.

Straight from our regs...the main reason I was happy to get the Ruger Wrangler last year for Christmas. Lugging around a rifle sucked.

There is a need for different regs in your state.

Try abiding by that in downtown Atlanta. There are workarounds.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been checked by a warden while trapping and won’t say what most have said regarding certain critters when talking with them during WMA dove or turkey hunts when trapping is brought up. I just don’t want to run into that “one” that would start looking over critters and ask about dispatch.

Thank you for the nice words. Glad it helped. We sell a lot of videos.

Blessings,

Several years I had to get my non-resident trapping license in Atlanta. Um.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Multiple trips.
Employees who were not very skilled at the job they were in.
Um.
Wow.

I had never thought to open up a coyote like that. Thank you, it is informative. I have noticed that shot placement on deer/elk (top of the leg line) is not as effective on coyotes and raccoon. That coyotes and raccoons require placement further back. FWIW- CCI Segmented .22 is effective without creating exits.

Been using the same pistol dispatch method for many years now. Very effective and lethal with good shot placement. 22 shorts work very well. Little blood loss in most cases.

Old Stevens Junior rifle, 22 hollow point shorts here. I have a pistol but consider a rifle much safer.....jk

Yes many diagrams I found online showed the yote vitals way forward. After a few rough goes at dispatch I finally opened one up just like s^s's pic.
