Wifey butchered her first deer - 11/20/20 09:14 PM
Rifle deer season started here last weekend, and while I don't hunt deer myself, we've been given 3 confiscated poached deer by the local CO. I took care of the first one, I wasn't able to get home to help with the second one but a member here was able to help her. The third one, though, I again wasn't able to get home, and she wanted to tackle it herself. She was bale to get it up on the gambrel and everything, and managed to get the hide off in one piece and get 52 pounds of meat off of the beast. Super proud of her. She's watched me do it a few times before, but never attempted anything like it herself before.

Good deal. My wife would butcher me before she touched a deer carcass.

Nice to see.
It becomes a matter of any household processing , to me.
I enjoy both skinning and let hang cure till later, or gutless butchering in the field. Like elk and moose are processed.

I sent her a couple youtube videos of gutless butchering, I've done roadkill deer that way in the back of the truck before. I told her she could just chip up the hide and get whatever meat she could, but she was determined to get the hide off all in one piece.

Thats great. My wife helps with the butcher part and making bolonga, jerky and sticks. But she doesnt want to help with skinning.

She can make it on her own.

That’s a huge deer hide on the floor.
My wife usually comes out to the garage to help me skin. Two weeks ago, I shot a deer in the late afternoon, skinned it and let it hang overnight in the garage. That night, I had an attack of vertigo. I knew I had to tend to that deer, as it was gonna warm up soon. I staggered out to the garage, but the nausea soon overcame me. I went back into the house, and the wife was just getting up. She went out to the garage, lowered the chain block with the deer, got it in a Jet Sled, loaded it into the Forester, and drove it to the processor to donate to HSH.
I was impressed.

And the proud look on her face says it all. Women are God's most amazing creation. And a real gift to us men.
