Where would the top Coon pelts in the lower 48 come from? Top 3 regions for size and color?

I think the actual triangle is bit larger than your map...

Sure isn’t near Delmarva, the best peninsula in all the land by the way.

I would agree with that map, but I would extend it southward a bit along the Mississippi river to at least Galesburg Illinois. I used to buy some beautiful coon from Ralph Coffee in Galesburg Illinois; But I guess I don't really know where he got them.

I am in the SE corner of the illustrated triangle, but some of my best coons were graded Canadian.

I'm going to stick my neck out a bit and say that coon color is more important than heaviness. I don't know what the market wants now, but from previous experience I've noticed that a good colored coon -maybe and A or B color- from a more southerly location is more desirable than a yellow coon from a northern area.

Depends on what you are talking about,Heaviest is Canadian (X hvy section).Limited use because they are too hvy(wooly).large size.
Best colour is from Iowa in the hvy section(best coon overall for trim and garment use) also large size.

When the market was stronger a lot of coons that were late season caught from NE northern MO, Northern ILL and most of IA did very well as their colors were good. I remember seeing reports where semi heavies with good color were selling as good or better than north centrals or western heavies with average or say B-C colors instead of AB colors. Right now with a 10,6, 3, 1 dollar in the grease market as an example and you drop a grade due to poor color you loose almost half the value of that coon.

I know everyone talks about the triangle but imo northeast Nebraska up along the James River in south Dakota are better. And yes I’ve seen coon from both areas.

LOL! Right in it but those are only going for a high of $10

Re: Best Coon by region - 11/26/20 03:36 AM
Well it appears on <$4 average its hard to target coon for profit in the best coon areas. Maybe set for coon on the Coyote line to guard sets and pick up gas money. The pelts on that Grozny Video sure looked like good quality sized and color
There is just to much supply of coon still out there.
