Dirty Old Egg Sucking... - 11/28/20 06:38 AM
....Weasel.
I saw this little guy rolling one of my chicken eggs through the snow and under my truck. There was a nest under the house I didn't find this fall.
Glad he is getting them out from under there. Hope he gets them all.
He is rolling them with his nose, through a few inches of snow, into the junk pile.

After he cleans them out are you going to trap him? Cool pictures thanks for sharing.

No I give them a pass. As long as he don't try to tackle a hen. They keep the vole population in check, and that helps alot come gardening season.

Very cool! Way better than a house cat for the vermin.

Clean up crew. I had one the other day working the flashings pile I dump at the edge of my property. My wife asked if I was going to trap the little fellow and I told her “no way”. They are voracious mousers and I have no chickens to be concerned for. We haven’t had a mouse in the house in the seventeen years we have lived here.
They are cool little buggers.

LOL! That is awesome. I really like them around at the ranch, they are mice killing machines.
I would never harm one of those critters.

During the years when fur is reasonably marketable my shop has a lot going on over an extended period of time, which means hard to control mouse populations. One winter, a few years ago, I had a weasel living in my shop. He was interesting company and took complete responsibility for the mouse issue.

The egg is probably frozen, need to get photos of it cracking open that egg. Frozen eggs are very hard.

I’d keep him around for the show alone a lot could be learned about their habits.

Very cool shots of a very unique animal !
They can become quite tame once they become used to you.
I sat on a trail and one approached me as I was having my lunch , on a hike trip. He was hungry and came close, so I fed him pieces of hot dog. Soon he was taking them from my fingers, very politely...no grab and gulp !
Love to see them around.
Feel free to take more shots and share , please !

I guess it would be a dirty trick to keep him busy rolling golf balls around.

We've had them living under our chicken coop occasionally during winter, and they haven't bothered our laying hens. It seems like they eat the voles, and then move on.

Thanks guys and gals. I sure do appreciate his determination. He rolled that egg through the snow uphill about 40 yards and under an old boat.
I have a picture I took years ago that adorns my wall. This little guy was visiting a wolverine set. It was a moose head wired up on a leaning tree about six feet off the ground.
As a side note I didn't catch a wolverine in that set, but caught a arctic fox up in that tree in a 330.
Amazing the memories a picture can bring back.

Re: Dirty Old Egg Sucking... - 11/29/20 10:28 AM
it's amazing he rolled that thing that far. I didn't even know they were egg-eaters. I thought they were 100% carnivore.

Oh yes they are egg eaters. Great pic's - tks for posting. Noticed large amount of black on tail tip. Seems like a lot more than tail tips on short tail weasels around here.
