That's a big 'un. Actually, that's heavier than most of the coyotes I get here in the mountains.

Looks just like a first year old Manitoba racoon.....did not think the boarder was open for them to go down there.!!!!

Measure the length of the hind foot >125 mm = young of the year up to 1 April after birth.

Did not catch a lot of coon in the UP but the ones I caught were good sized ones often.

Nice one! I have noticed a lot of tracks in these warm winter days.

Re: Big coon today - 12/13/20 12:08 AM

Yes much bigger in the UP than lower Michigan on average. I have trapped and hunted them in both UP and lower Michigan since a kid and maybe 1 30+ lb out of a 100 Coon

I think my father had more 30+ Raccoon than any man I ever new. I remember as kid he left more raccoons in trees and let more go in traps and we always had more big ones then my brother and I wanted skin. The pic was a common night in the UP in the 90's

Re: Big coon today - 12/13/20 02:19 AM

Back in NAFA days, a 5xl coon was one that a solidly at or over 38 inches from nose to base of tail. A 6xl would be another 3 inches in length, so at least 41 inches...?
Posted By: Law Dog

Re: Big coon today - 12/13/20 02:23 AM

He went 38 inches by hanging it by the nose hope to get a few more in that range.
