Charley Pride was the second recording artist I was fortunate to meet the first was Jimmy Dean both were reforming at the state fair in Great Falls Mt back in the late 1960's
Both were gentlemen and were kind enough to take a moment to spend with a young kid which I always appreciated .

Rest well Charley Pride and a prayer for you and your's ! You rounded 3rd and have headed for the home base !

Too many good ones gone this year... makes you wonder who's going to fill their shoes?

Really good baseball player . Could have played for the Mets but decided to sing for his living . played in spring training for a number of years.

I remember coming home from school back in the mid 70's and my Mom singing his songs. I sure miss them days.

Interesting. Didn't know that.
He definitely broke down some barriers. I don't think it was easy for a black man to gain fame when he did.

One of my favorites.
Went to see him in concert. Before the concert my wife and I was eating dinner, Charlie came in with wife and a few others, was seated at the table next to us. Didn't want to bother him so we just nodded at each other. Finished dinner and went and watched the show. RIP Charlie.

"Get a gimmick like Charley Pride got and you’ll be a country star"

Harold and Don Reid knew Charley didn't need a gimmick (but what a great line), that's the reason they put him in that song with the other greats of country music, because he had one of the best voices in the business.

Roll on Mississippi is one of my all time favorites. He will be missed.
